One of my kiddos accidently put the wrong a/c adapter into a Canon camcorder and completely ruined the camcorder (the a/c adapter was too strong).

I was able to take out the HD, it looks like this:

Anyway, I bought some

Zif to IDE connector then and IDE to USB, that didn't work.

The IDE to USB connector would turn red, but no computer will read it.

Then I bought

a zif enclosure with a zif-40 connector.

For the most part, I was able to get the little light to turn green, but again, the computers won't read the hard drive.

Is this a case where the hard drive was fried originally? How can I know? Anyway I can recover the data from it using another method?

Thanks so much.

Once you got it to "turn green" did you go in to the bios to see if it recognized the drive? If it did you may be able to go in to the disk management console and import it as a foreign disk.

How do I go into BIOS?

I went into the DIsk management and I could not find it.

It depends on the computer but it's usually F2, F10 or sometimes DEL

If the bios doesn't recognize the drive it's probably toast.
