Apple released some stuff today, updated some of the iPods and whatever but I'm trying to decide if I love of hate the new Apple TV.

On one hand, I already have three ways to stream Netflix, so not going to buy it for that. And I will never pay for a TV show as long as I pay cable and could watch them that way if I wanted to.

It says "All Rentals", I think that is from the device. If you bought something via iTunes, you could still theoretically stream it to the Apple TV.

It may be nice to have in a bedroom or something, but outside of that I'm having trouble seeing any real benefits to the thing, especially since they removed the storage option.

Any content you own and is in your iTunes library you could stream to the device.

It's probably going to be about the easiest to use Netflix experience out of any pf the devices offering it.

It's certainly not a game changer, but it's a big improvement over the previous version, and for $99 it's hard to pass up.

I was bummed that it was not more iOS like with the ability to add additional apps, such as Amazon VOD or others.

AMAZON VOD is the shizzzz. I added it lastnight to my PC and use it for my Dell Streak.

Fantastic service.

Plus you can stream content from all your IOS devices.

Record an HD vid on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad and stream to your TV.

I haven't quite jumped on the Netflix bandwagon yet. This may get me into it. I usually get all my content from Torrents.

This. For $99 it's a no-brainer for me. I'll probably get one for each of my TV's.

I bet an AppStore type deal will be made for it eventually.

If you guys have a PC and a PS3, you basically already have this in a way. Download PlayOn for your PC, setup your logins to your stuff like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon VOD, etc and it will stream things to your PS3. It also has all the stuff that the major networks stream from their sites. Like, CBS.com has lots of old Twilight Zone episodes plus their new shows, etc.

It's great.

Can you imagine if they did have an appstore for it.

You could buy the DirecTv ST service for the computer and watch it on your TV through that app just like you can on the phone.

Appstore needs to happen.

Yep.

I do that with my PS3 right now. I use Tversity to stream though. I also do that on my xbox360.

I want one for each of my tv's though. At a $99 price point it's a lot cheaper to get it done. Plus, it will integrate with all my IOS devices seamlessly.

It costs $40 if you want to use it past the 14 day trial, but they have $20 sales almost every week for it. Hell, it's worth it if you ask me. I've ditched cable and I've barely missed a beat with this program.

I'm wondering if someone can hack it and turn it into a Slingbox type player.

That would be fun to look into.

Take a look at Tversity. There's a free version and I believe it has the same functionality.

AppleTV looks pretty sweet for that $99 price. Put one of those in the bedroom just to stream Netflix and that's a price that's hard to beat for something like that.

Yeah. I've looked at that one. The free version is pretty limited from what I've read, but the Pro version is very comparable to PlayOn. Not sure which is better overall. PlayOn was mind-numbingly easy to setup and was the first I tried, so I just sorta stuck with it.

Definitely will install it and give it a whirl tonight though.

I almost bought another PS3 just to stream content to my upstairs TV in my master bedroom.

I'll be able to stream all content on my devices for super cheap.

That's a winner right there.

I just to a look as well. It is limited.

I only use it to stream movies from my PC that I find torrents for.

I couldn't beat free on that one!

For $99 it's cheap enough to buy and see if I like it.

You can also try PS3 Media Server. It's free and does something similar. It's what I had been using. It doesn't do any of the web service streaming, but if you've got some movies downloaded on your PC and want to play them on your TV through your PS3? It works great for that.

One issue I had heard in the whispers leading to it's release was that it would be gimped to 720p maximum. Turns out it's true, which takes a bit of the luster off.

Wonder if you can plug a USB hard drive into the back and read off of that.
