Love the phone. I rooted/ROM'd it last weekend and am currently running LeeDroids latest build and kernel. Excellent performance and after 14 hrs of fairly easy use, 81% battery life left. :D

I also was able to get Netflix Streaming working again after the latest NF update.

XDA has done some fantastic stuff for the android community. I also noticed HTC just launched its new htcdev.com site for all developers/supporters of its HTC/android devices.

That and the announcement that all of the boot loaders will remain unlocked for everyone, is fantastic news.

Just wanted to post the success and why android is just a BEAST.

LTE is SICK. I can't wait until they launch LTE here in Anchorage.

Are you on an unlimited data plan? I heard that even if you had unlimited on Verizon and got an LTE phone that they were somehow capping those plans now.

If they keep unlimited with LTE, I will be absolutely shocked.

Do you tether? I know ATT is cracking down on illegal tethering.

From what I've seen HTC phones absolute own. My Nexus One (made by HTC) is over a year old and it's still better than most phones out there. The only thing it's missing is LTE.

Wait, X-Box wasn't completely playable over 4G?

That's surprising, I play on 3Mb down (cheap DSL plan) and it plays fine.

I hate to appear ignorant, but about this subject I am. What does rooted and ROM'd mean? What does it do? I assume it makes the phone perform better. Is that correct?

Most manufacturers and phone companies lock down there phones and limit what you can do with them. To Root a phone, means you get the most basic level of access to it. (where you can do anything you want) A ROM is an image of the software that runs on the phone. People like to put their own versions of the software on their phone that do things the original software did not do.

You must root the phone before you can install a new ROM. (ROM=Read Only Memory)

Root refers to basically the primary account on the phone. Unix and Linux servers have a primary account that has the ability to do anything. That account's name is "root"

It makes the phone not only perform better, but a LOT better. :) Benchmarks of mfgr shipped phones compared to those identical phones which have been rooted and rom'd for performance, are insane in sbs comparisons.

Rooting isn't easy. There are some technical things you need to know, but there are a bagillion write ups on w/e Android phone you have and how to root it properly. All in step by step (sometimes youtubed videos) directions and VERY easy to follow.

Some root methods are a simple. Some only involve installing some software and pluggin in your phone and clicking a single button. SIMPLE ONE CLICK ANYONE? :) Depending on the phone, those are pretty rare nowadays. The manufacturers are getting smarter and trying to lock the phones down even further. It's a losing battle really. Everything gets opened up sooner or later. All phones do. Even the little fiefdom apple phones.
You really do need to be careful though. If you aren't careful, you can BRICK your phone making it unuseable.

Thanks for the explanations. I have an HTC Incredible, but I doubt I'll be trying to root and ROM it.
