I saw this on the TV when I was working out this mourning and thought it was odd.

DALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District is close to finalizing plans for a new high school that caters to students up to 25 years old.
If it gets final approval, the "over-age" high school will open in the fall, reflecting a growing emphasis on alternative education.

There are 780 school "kids" in the DISD who qualify as "over-age." Pending final approval, later this month, they'll have their own school to attend at the Nolan Estes campus in Oak Cliff.
A principal has already been hired.

At a Thursday briefing, Trustee Bernadette Nutall expressed concern that the idea was costly and detracted from other district initiatives.
"I'm just saying, look at our priorities and say what is it that we need right now," she said, suggesting that over-age students could go to existing alternative schools.

But Superintendent Michael Hinojosa said over-age kids don't fit in elsewhere, and a dedicated school would be held accountable for student success.
"These are two different models," he said. "These are two completely different models."

Hinojosa added that start-up costs for the new school are low, and there appears to be overwhelming support on the board for an "over-age school."
The idea has worked in other districts in Texas, including Austin, Carrollton-Farmers Branch, Houston, Garland and Richardson.
