So we scratched the ski trip and took a venture down to New Orleans with the old lady. Man, what a fabulous city. I love the spirit of that town. I went to the dome and even though the Cowboys aren't playing, I had a good time and got caught up rooting for the Saints. Mostly because Drew Brees has Austin ties and I like the way they run their offense.
I spent most of my time uptown, which was a lot of fun. I partied before and after the Saints game and it's hilarious after a win. The culture and vibe was so cool. I sort of get the "who dat" thing now. I ate some good Cajun food and heard some good brass bands. We decided to go on a whim, mostly because that's where the lady went to school and still has a place there. But I hadn't been there before and I thought the town might be depressing because of Katrina.
To the contrary, it was a cool town like San Diego--one where you know it's the only place like it. Maybe I like it because it's the only place the French never occupied. LOL. Nah, it just had a cool vibe and I'm glad I went. I may have to take another trip down to LA soon. The people were great. You walk down the street with an open beer and people invite you in for BBQ or to use the restroom.
And here I thought us Texans were hospitable. We ought to revisit that myth. I've never seen such a thing like that here in Austin.
Oh, and I won 600$ at the poker table at Farrah's. So that basically paid for the trip and tickets. Woot!
Thanks for all the info. I will revisit the ski thread when I go back up to the mountains. Just posting an update in case anyone cared.
I pick the Saints to win the Super Bowl. Sean Payton is a very good coach. He has that team fired up.
