Newman is 27, going to be 28 at the start of the season.

He has 2 years left on his deal.

Meaning, when he is a FA, he will be 29, going to be 30 at the start of the season....

Do we lock him up? If so, for how long? How much?

I guess people are unsure of what to do, as well........

no different that any free agent -- it really isn't the age -- it is the miles. if he continues where he left off last year, he should get a contract that is among the top in the league for CBs. Length of the deal doesn't matter -- most deals have a point after about 3 years where a player can be cut with minimal cap impact if they aren't performing.

Newman will be a contributor until 33-34 at least. His legs are still fresh. So barring an injury who should be a cornerstone in that secondary for a long while.

He signed for 7 years. We've got him locked up till 2010. At which point he will be 32 before the season starts.

Are there voidable years there though?

Theres almost always voidables in all the rookie contracts. Theres also a reasonable chance that the last few years of the deal are too high to want to pay them, for anyone other than Deion in his prime.
