saw this a number of places but did not see anyone post it here yet.

According to SI's Don Banks, the NFL has confirmed what many people have known was coming for a while, the 2005 draft will not be held at Madison Square Garden. The Dolan family, which owns MSG, has emerged at the largest and most powerful vote against the Jets getting a new stadium. The Dolans are concerned that a new facility would take away too many major events from MSG, and have spent a lot of money opposing the Jets' bid. The NFL has no choice but to move the draft, reportedly to the Jacob Javits Convention Centre, although that has not been finalized yet. The draft has been held in New York since 1965, and from our sources, there is some limited support that might be gaining some footing to eventually have the draft event moved around the country, but most believe that the commissioner, Paul Tagliabue, would like to keep the event in New York, especially in the short term. With the NFL draft expolding in popularity, it will be interesting to see if the league finds ways to create even more revenue and local excitement with the event by moving it from venue to venue in the next decade or not.
