Rank - 16: Dak Prescott
Dallas Cowboys · Year 8

2023 stats: 5 games | 69.4 pct | 1,061 pass yds | 6.6 ypa | 5 pass TD | 4 INT | 45 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 0 fumbles

"Prescott walked off the field at Levi’s Stadium with only one excellent throw to his name in Week 5, a rainbow strike to KaVontae Turpin for a 26-yard touchdown. The rest was entirely forgettable, if not nauseating. With no running game to speak of, the responsibility fell on the shoulders of the quarterback, who threw three interceptions, with each uglier than the last. His first was an ill-advised heave downfield that was easily snagged by safety Tashaun Gipson. His second was a poor decision, attempting to force a pass against a defender with inside leverage on a slant route, resulting in a deflection caught by Fred Warner. And his third was downright atrocious, another throw toward a slanting receiver (this time against outside leverage) that Oren Burks could see coming all the way from San Jose. Folks who believe Prescott can carry the team to a title got a hard dose of reality on Sunday night."

Wow, Dak falls 8 places down to #16. Is this fair? This is a big plunge.

Other notables:
Jalen Hurts at #1? absurd?
Kirk Cousins at #10
Jared Geoff at #8
Brock Purdy at #6

Dak falling to #16 is too much. 49ers defense is getting it done against everyone so far. Dak is still a top 10 QB in this league.

Hurts #1? Maybe they are looking at improvement. First two games he averaged about 180-185 yards passing. Last three games he is averaging 300 yards ppg. His team has pounded out over 400 yards of offense per game the last three weeks. I wouldn't have him at #1, but he is up there. He plays the game within the system, makes plays when he has to, and isn't afraid to throw the ball after he makes a mistake. He just keeps winning. Nothing succeeds like success.

Cousins has been let down by his defense and some bad coaching decisions. Cousins always seems to linger around #10 every year. He is a good, not great QB who gives you a chance to win...and makes some head scratching plays in between. Washington would be a real threat had they kept him IMO.

Goff has been so much better with a real offensive line in front of him--#2 line in the league by almost all metrics. Amazing what good line play can do for a QB.

Purdy will be top 5 by the halfway point of the season. He sees the field so well for a young QB. He lets his team's strength work for him. And by all accounts, like Hurts, Purdy is very coachable.

The difference betweeen guys 11-16 isn't really much. They are all essentially the same. Dak is ovreall an average NFL QB. Which still makes him light years ahead of all us normal folks. But, in NFL standards he's pretty average. You can say 16 is too low, but it's right around what Dak is. If Jerry and Stephen sign him to any more big money it shows they've really lost it and will sabatoge a team as long as they don't have to admit mistake. The real issue is some guys at age 30 are still getting better. Dak's athetisism has gone down hill and he's now regressing and has been a couple years now.

I can agree the fall to #16 is a bit much based on one game. I don't know how much Dak has left in the tank. I don't think he is in the top 10 right now for sure.

Based on this season alone, #16 is generous. I think he is better than that but he will fluctuate throughout the season depending on which Dak shows up and which team they are playing.

Well CBS has him at 15 if it makes the homers happy.

Objectively, he's 17th in yards.

29 interceptions is his last 33 starts. It's just depressing...

NFL TEAM RECORDS after Week 5___
SF 5-0
PHL 5-0
KC 4-1
MIA 4-1
When an NFL team is accumulating wins, the QB usually gets credit, a bump, or gets a pass - according to how he played.
When an NFL loses, all look to how the quarterback performed.
Hurts & Rams won by 9 on the road.
Cousins & Vikings lost at home to Chiefs by 7.
Geoff & Lions blew out Panthers at home (up 28-10 @ 3rd qtr end)
Cowboys- Niners: Prescott versus Purdy stats ----PLEASE

A lot do the stock they’re putting into it is probably base on trends in recent weeks. Jalen’s QBR has gotten better every game. Dak’s is all over the place week-to-week

But yeah, Brock should be #1

Stopped reading right here
I wonder what expectation people have for being considered a top 10 QB. While the list is very suspect this week this one line from the critique of Dak rings out: "Folks who believe Prescott can carry the team to a title got a hard dose of reality on Sunday night." It's not just carry a team to a title, a top 10 Quarterback, my expectation is they should be able to Carry a team when the Defense has an off day and you are facing a very talented team. Top 10 QBs should at least sometimes be able to carry a team you would think.
