NFL schedulers gave the Cowboys possible advantage in extra time to rest for games

The days after the release of the NFL schedule has traditionally been a time for Dallas Cowboys fans to bemoan the inequities inflicted on their team. There was the stretch around Thanksgiving they have faced for several years when they have been scheduled to play consecutive Thursdays as a sop to Thursday Night Football, awkward placement of the bye week, and going into games with less rest than their opponents. 2022 is different. That TNF game has been separated from the Thanksgiving one, the bye is in a good place, and Dallas is facing more teams with less time to prepare than the other way around.

Sadly, unless they have the game on the plane and at Chicago O'Hare airport, I'm going to miss that game as l be coming back from Midwest FurFest.

Rest has never done the Cowboys much good. Some of their worst performances have been after a bye week. They have a tendency to come back flat.
Other than getting a player healthier I don’t see a huge advantage of extra rest for this team
The bye is in a decent spot on paper but you never know. A bye is most important when it falls in line with a player recovering from an injury
In the end I don’t think byes, extra days rest or much else really makes a huge difference in how they are scheduled before the season

The only advantage a bye week provides at least for the Cowboys has been getting an injured player healthier or back in the lineup. If we’re playing well a bye week tends to hurt our momentum and we come back flat. The Cowboys had 13 days off when they faced the Giants in the 2007 playoffs and didn’t play well. The more games they keep adding the more bye weeks they keep adding. They don’t work for some teams they take them out of their routine.

I do like the bye week in the middle of the season.
That's favorable.

I don’t have any issues with the schedule layout.
If I was going to have an issue, is we finish with 3 or 4 games on the road. And 2 on the road. And this is typical. We finished at home like 7 times since 2000. That is wrong, and never 2 games at home.

But it is what it is. All in the past.

But the way the games are laid out to finish is not bad.

We have the 10 days after T-day, and 3 straight home games. Later on, we play home on Christmas Eve on a Saturday, then 5 days rest before on the road at Tennessee, a Thursday night game. then 10 days to finish on the road at Washington.

I don’t think that is too bad.
