Now let's look at the free agent class. Not looking too great. Last year is when Jerry should've attacked free agency, it aligned perfectly with our needs. RB, DT, LB, O line.

I'm not sure why this keeps coming up when we all know the Cowboys could create $100M in salary cap if they wanted too.
Sure push it down the road in void years, nothing like have guys like Gallop still taking up cap dollars. After a few players are gone the numbers will get better. Heck who care if there’s 100 or so million in dead money 3 years down the road

The rest of the story....Dallas can make more than 80m in cap space with simple restructures....and about 120m if we restructure everyone. Cap Space is easy to make.

Now let's look at the free agent class. Not looking too great. Last year is when Jerry should've attacked free agency, it aligned perfectly with our needs. RB, DT, LB, O line.
Plenty of LB and O Line available. Lots of young players under 28 that have a lot of starting experience. And there will be RB's available to bring in for a true committee.

The problem is that we are looking at a completely uninspiring coaching pick and a front office that doesn't believe in spending any money in free agency. Just using the draft we cannot fill all the holes.

They're a mess and even with a few restuctures teams that are far and away better are in better cap shape and will certainly attack free agency, not sit around with their hand in their pants.

How will we even keep the lights on in the facility on that? *Sighs* guess we'll have to go all in again.

It isnt just the Cowboys...it's the way teams do business anymore.
We have to sign Parsons and that is going to cost.

What worries me is the Commodes having all that space and not have to restructure anyone.
and they actually got a real good GM and HC.
We get cap space by signing Parsons long term.

I'm not sure why this keeps coming up when we all know the Cowboys could create $100M in salary cap if they wanted too.
Thay won't. They might touch some of it. It's my opinion that the huge cap hit was put now in order to get rid of it while they have the space.

Here are Dak's cap hits.

89.8m
67m
61m
71m

Think about it. They could have just switched year 1 with year 3. Instant 30M cap space right now. No need to restructure.

If I were them they could make some moves that won't make much impact as to what's on the field (only losing Steele, Wilson, and Hooker that are currently under contract). To me the right number is about $55m to 60m. Do not touch Dak's contract, so if you wanted in another year or two you could move on. With that $55m, you have to account for a handful of current Dallas free agents, most ERFA and RFA, but you do have guys like Lewis, Odigizuwa, Tank, Anger, and a couple others you have to think hard about. There should be room for a couple free agent walk in starters that would be upgrades.

The one thing that would happen if Deion were to come....he would make Jerry commit to adding some FA talent. I have no doubts about that.

This is wrong and not accurate. Besides they have to creat cap space becuase the draft poole requires an about 15-22 million to sign.

I went through this exercise in another thread for CeeDee. They can get a $30 million CAP save by restructuring Dak, but that add $11.5 million to his CAP hit over the next 4 years of his deal. And pushing$11.5 million into a voidable year. What it means is moving about $34 million into the future making it that much more painful to cut him or trade him as salary gets converted to pro-rated bonus. If they force a trade, the bonus stays with CAP's CAP while the salary he is owed goes to the team he gets traded to.

My point is, yes, they can save $100 million if they go crazy and push all that money into future years but is that the right thing to do with this team? Do they want to get stuck with Dak another 3 years or would like like an out after this year?

I think they should eat the $90 million CAP hit for Dak this year and begin preparing to move on from him in 2026. Pushing all that CAP into the future is the equivalent of "running it back".

People need to remember, restructuring to save $100 million or so means having to pay the $100 million at some point in the future. I am not crazy about that idea because I don't want to commit to these players longer than I have to.
