Very sad, but she had dementia, and from what I've read, she was being taken advantage of by her son (IIRC), who had power of attorney.

I wish her last years were happy for her. A beautiful, talented, reportedly very good person, who gave a lot of hope and pride.

She once considered quitting Star Trek, but Dr. Martin Luther King talked her into staying.

My wife discovered very quickly that I was a huge Star Trek fan after we met. When she blessed me by giving birth to my daughter, she asked me what name I wanted to give her. She told me it could only be a middle name.

I said "Uhura."

She completely understood. My family completely understood. The only name that would have been more "perfect" was Nichelle.

This will be tough for a few days.



Rest in peace, Mrs. Nichols. I will remember you and what you mean to me, and many people like me, until my dying day.

I didn't know MLK talked her into staying. Glad she did. What a iconic role and show. Think i might have to watch a few episodes tonight.

First black head coach in modern-day pro sports and now the first interracial kiss on TV. Hollywood and it’s politics can be annoying, but it does sometimes take mainstream entertainment to change the world.

This one really hurts. Growing up a Star Trek fan she was one of the favorites. She will be missed.

With all this older stars passing, we are seeing the end of a magic era in entertainment.
