Nick Folk is essentially perfect for the year. His only miss was a blocked field goal at the end of the half against Miami on a 61 yard attempt.

His kick offs are much longer this year than in previous years with the Dallas Cowboys.

New Coaching is being credited.

Hmmm?

I think he just got his groove back. Dude needed a change of surroundings to knock off the funk. Kickers are weird like that.

you blaming Joe DeCamillis? How about blaming Folk for having a mental melt down?

Yeah I hate seeing him out there nailing them, but I guess he just needed a change of scenery.

Not just having a mental meltdown, but waiting until the offseason is half over before deciding to have hip surgery.

Then in rushing to return, he screws up his mechanics.

So the end of his tenure in Dallas is on Mr. Folk.

This screw up is all on the Cowboy front office. WG is right. At the least he should have been put on IR and came back this year. I'll never understand the way we handled that situation. Ever.

Apparently you forgot his stretch of missed FG's last year... it was really bad...

I can't remember a single person on this board that wanted to have to cut him, but he was in a bad funk. Since kicking is largely mental, he had to go...

He doesn't have a touchback yet, so his kickoffs aren't a whole lot better.

Of course, Buehler doesn't have a touchback yet either - what's up with that?

Yeah, I didn't understand that AT ALL. That's like a golfer having shoulder surgery weeks before a tournament.

As far as his kickoffs being better, that's not what I've seen at all. I've watched a few Jet games and I don't think I've actually seen him kick one into the endzone yet.

He's kicking them deep but teams are just bringing them out anyway cause our coverage was pretty crappy the first couple of weeks.

I agree. So much of it is confidence for kickers. The Cowboys knew Folk could do it that is why they stayed with him even as the team was under fire for hanging on to him. In the end Folk was given chances but he was not doing the job and his confidence was shot. Sometimes a new team is what a guy needs to feel he has a fresh start.

The only problem I had with the way we handled Folk is we didn't didn't release him soon enough.

Or that he wasn't listed on an injury report so he could have been IR'd

That's not true. His deepest kicks have only gone 2-3 yards deep, that's not anything special and are returned by most teams. I usually don't mind those since he usually has good hangtime on those and coverage actually gets there before they get to the 20, but he's only had 1 like that this year.

I really wanted them to IR him last year and give him a chance to win the job back this offseason.

But thats how it goes sometimes.

I was at the Buffalo/New York game yesterday and Nick Folk missed about a 30 yarder and you hear the Jets fans getting upset and yelling "Folk sucks" and other obsenities. I remember that used to be me with Folk.
