No Combine this year

Just inflated numbers at pro days

Now how do we figure out who's actually a legit talent? 40 yard dash for WRs. Hidden talent? Players like Collins from Tulsa who, with a good combine, may move up enough to make sense for us to take at 10 to help at LB or Christian Barmore at DT who we may need at 10, but won't be able to get a good gauge on! Is there at least a Senior Bowl this year to see how they play against each other? I guess the one benefit is that secret players may fall a bit to find some more steals than we'd normally get.

Knew this was coming. Pro days have to be monitored by the nfl so these numbers don’t break every world record

Agreed, these Pro Days will need to be treated like an actual combine now. Why can't they do like a virtual combine? Have a few people at the combine to do the measurements and check the safety of the players, but the rest of the people, from scouts, owners, to GMs, observe on Zoom or VR Chat and take notes that way? That'd still give us a combine, but it would conform to the proper safety protocols. In fact! VR Chat would be perfect for the Combine! We have been doing this with our furry conventions lately! You pick an avatar, and sit in the bleachers or move around. In fact, you can have your computer avatar follow the player as he's running. Plus, it'd be hilarious to watch Jerry Jones figure out how to create an avatar and use it.

For example:

This is what VR Chat did for New Years in Times Square. Quite clever, and allowed the users to basically attend the New Years Celebrations without actually being in NY. My thinking is the NFL should partner with VR Chat to create a stage that looks like Lucas Oil Stadium. Then they can have the actual players at the real Lucas Oil Stadium or a few different stadiums. The events are performed, everyone watches what they need to see, problem solved.

Why can't they do like the NBA? Identify the players you want to invite to the Combine, make them isolate a few weeks prior to the Combine. Have them test when they go into quarantine, then when they arrive in Indy. Keep them in a "bubble" environment during their time at the Combine, then release them when it's over.

I like this! Have the players invited to the Combine enter a bubble for 2 weeks before the Combine. Hold the combine, but have the observers such as owners attend virtually through VR Chat.

It seems like they could easily mimic the NBA bubble, especially if they can find a location with multiple venues.

Space it out, both people wise and date wise. Spread out the position groups, and do like 4 days, two segments each day (AM and PM) something like only 30 players per segment.

COVID Test, quarantine, once clear, more testing and temperature checks day of.

1st week of March (1/2) QBs WRs TEs

2nd week (other 1/2) QBs RBs OL

3rd week DL & (1/2) LB

4th week DB & (1/2) LB

Limited and designated coaches watch on monitor and give instructions via loudspeaker. Each team can pick 3 people (GM, Head Coach, OC, DC, etc.) to sit in a VIP box and watch. Players are masked when not doing the actual drill/test. Minimum amount of people required on field. Everyone keeps their distance. Tons of equipment and cleaning of equipment between use. Since each week is dedicated to just a few positions you don't need to transition, move stuff, change cones, etc.

Players could always opt out. Teams could too. Everything available via broadcast and/or streaming.

You could even do it regionally.

Week 1 Florida
Week 2 Indianapolis
Week 3 Texas
Week 4 Arizona

There's no reason they can't get this done. Again, the NBA bubble laid out the blueprint.

Just thought about an article I read a while back where colleges and pro teams were complaining about the medical costs involved with testing and quarantining. The pro leagues wanted to split the costs with the players union.

Something like this idea (Combine bubble) would all have to be paid for by the league, which means the owners.

This is why no Combine. Under the current circumstances it would be way too costly for the owners who are already crying about lost stadium revenue, even though the TV deal makes them richer than any of us could imagine.

THank you! Use a bubble, and have 4 hub cities. For example you're from the Big East, Ivy League, ACC, or another East Coast Conference, your Combine is held in say New York (hypothetically). If you're from the Big 10, MAC, or another Midwest conference/school, then your Combine is in Indy. If you're in the SEC, Big 12, American Conference (University of Cincinnati). or other such conference, your Combine is held in Dallas. If you're from the PAC-12, Mountain West Conference, and other such West Coast Conferences, then your Combine is in Las Vegas.

Yup, pretty much the real reason they're not. They could make this work if they wanted to. They weren't worried about COVID when they let fans in the stands. Sure, it was partially filled, but they had fans there. Oh, but that's because they were MAKING money from that. I really think they should spend that money. It MIGHT help their team. The bubble and use of VR Chat would be a great way to fix the problem. But what do we know? We're just fans lol.
