Translation: There are no guaranteed wins in the NFL.

Winning in the NFL is not trivial regardless of the opponent.

Background for the younger generation:

There are no East Carolinas in the NFL.
-Buddy Ryan

Buddy said that about Jimmy when Jimmy came to the Cowboys after coaching the Miami Hurricanes in college.

the toughest game on the schedule is the one youre playing this week

the eagles made the superbowl beating the giants and a 49ers team with no qb because the starter got hurt and the backup was fairly new signed

however it doesnt matter

play the game and win it, people like to think we can just up and say lets play philly or san fran

we gotta wait....and if they wanna complain we can go back to the Garrett era and instead of 8 wins vs crappy teams cut it down to 5

East Carolina normally has a decent football team. Bad analogy.
Yeah, I remember that quote.
I think East Carolina finished 9th in the country that year.…and Dallas’s 90s SB champs had 3 players from there….more than any other program except Miami

Everyone knew what he meant but it came off pretty dumb at the time

Yeah, it's one thing to be beating bad teams it's another to be blowing the doors off them. These are college scores, not seen often in the NFL.
It''s looking like SF is about to make it 2 out of 3 blowout games today.

Three game sample.

40-0 and 45-10 are not common scores in the NFL, although the average margin of victory (12 points) this year is the highest it has been in a decade.

The league is so QB-dependent with the offense-friendly rules. If you lose your QB, or didn't even have one, it's almost impossible to win in the NFL.

Barry Switzer made a similar comment only it was regarding Iowa State and Cincinnati Bengals. Of course, Switzer was the bad guy according to the media.

Yeah I know, but thought it was funny the way today went.

Well he was a fat piece of crap, so him saying dumb things seems about right.

They're all paid professional football players. Any team can win any GameDay. That's why I'm laughing at all these low IQ closet rival fans starting threads about "beating weak teams.

As great as Patriots were, they beat the hell out of weak AFCE teams for 20 years and none of these hot breath cowards that dwell on this board said zero about it.

There are plenty of other teams that beat the same teams we beat, but these resident low IQ cowards say nothing about those teams.

Amazing run by Jimmy

I was thinking when Dallas won it all in 1992, East Carolina finished 11-1 and ranked 9th in AP
but yes, maybe earlier when he was at Miami they were bad
he still ended up getting some of their players

Amazing the Canes didn't win the National Championship for the 86 season...That might have been the most intimidating college team that I've watched.

In the NFL Jimmy targeted players that he had seen in person. Canes players and opponents.
