Hello Sportsfans,

I saw this in another post, (Thanks to CBz) and I started wondering why Norm Chow was in camp. I believe he's still the OC for UCLA. Seems like he should be getting the Bruins ready for the season, as opposed to being at camp. Anybody know what Norm Chow is doing at TC? I know it's not too far away from him but just wondering if anybody had more intel on this.

Thank you,

Norm Chow and Pacman
Former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow visited practice Monday and was immediately greeted by cornerback Adam Jones. Chow, now coaching at UCLA, understands the Cowboys’ interest in using Jones on offense. Chow had six plays in the Titans’ offensive playbook designed specifically for Jones — although he didn’t get to use him as much as he wanted. "He’s such a dominant young guy and we didn’t have a lot of playmakers back then," Chow said. "He looked terrific this morning."

College staffs routinely go to pro camps this time of year. The OU staff is in camp with New Orleans right now

I suppose. Bruins 1st game is just over a month away (9/1 vs Tennessee). Seems like you would be busy getting your team ready but I can't imagine any other reason for it so I'd guess your probably right.

Appriciate the response. Probably nothing at all to it.

I think attending a pro camp and studying how they do things is a good way of getting your college team ready. UCLA like most if not all college programs have not even started their Fall practices yet, so Chow has time to go learn something that may be beneficial to the Bruins.

The college teams haven't started official practices yet.

This is routine.

Lots of teams seem to do it these days. I suppose Chow is no different. I have always liked Norm Chow and thought he was one of the really smart Offensive minds in the game, at any level. I guess a part of me was hoping we might be talking to him but there is probably nothing at all to it. Just my imagination running away with me.

Dallas may not be looking to hire Chow, but I bet Garrett is picking his brain. At least I hope he is because Chow does indeed have a sharp offensive mind.

Based on all that I've read, he was just there visiting and observing. You know there's an open door at TC.

** UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow was at the morning workout. Adam Jones was the first person to greet him. Chow had been Tennessee's coordinator when Jones was with the Titans. Chow also exchanged pleasantries with Ray Sherman, who was on the Titans' staff.

Rumor has it he was interviewing for the O/C position that will become available when Wade gets fired and J.G is promoted to H/C.....:D

He's a sharp mind that strangely gets fired everywhere he goes.

Really? I don't believe he was fired from either NC State or USC.

Plus being a sharp offensive mind does not always equal being a good coach. Some guys can X and O, but need others around them to communicate with and motivate players. I think that can be seen with Chow in interviews and is probably why he has gone so long without being a head coach.

I agree with this. I don't believe he was fired at BYU either. He was fired from Tennessee but I believe that had more to do with his offense and Young's ability to run it then it did anything else. It is pretty widely known that Young was not the QB he wanted to draft. Doesn't really matter. I think a lot of him and I, for one, would not mind seeing him designing plays for our offense. Romo, IMO, is exactly the kind of QB Chow could have a field day with. Those two could be prolific.

I don't really have anything against him, I was just playing around.

I've heard he kind of has a rep of being sort of a nerdy guy who doesn't play nice with others because he always has to be the smartest guy in the room. That's why he's kind of bounced around and has never had a lot of head coaching offers even though he's almost a household name as an offensive coordinator.

I know you were. I've heard the same things. It is going to be interesting to watch Chow and Neuheisel work together at UCLA.
