I heard this story last week. It is strange sometimes how things happen, go unnoticed and in the big scheme don't really matter.

Because of Constitution Error, North Dakota is Not a State (and Never Has Been)

A constitutional error recently discovered shows that North Dakota has never technically fit the requirements for statehood.

John Rolczynski, an 82-year old Grand Forks resident, discovered the error in 1995 and has been been campaigning to fix North Dakota's constitution ever since. The problem lies in the state constitution's omission in requiring the governor and other top officials to take an oath of office. In failing to require these oaths, North Dakota's constitution is at odds with federal requirements established by Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, therefore making statehood illegitimate.

Haha. I'm telling my dad this. He's from ND. I also don't think there's a single black person in that state...lol.

There are almost no people at all in ND. About 650,000 or so. That is a tiny population.

Back in the 90s I went to college at University of North Dakota for a year and yes, this statement is close to true.

Anyone remember about 10 years ago - the nutcase in Texas that announced that Texas was never legally annexed into the United States? I think he said the issue was that the Republic of Texas never actually voted on it, or something along those lines. He declared Texas to be a sovereign nation, and appointed himself as the President of the Republic of Texas. He refused to pay taxes and refused to submit to federal or state laws, and instructed followers to do the same. I believe he also issued land grants and maybe even created a form of currancy. Ended in a showdown in the mountains of West Texas where some people got killed, and the "President" got arrested and eventually sentenced to prison.

There are still some Republic of Texas followers out there. Heard one of them in a courtroom one time. That was, shall we say, interesting.

Look up the conch republic if you get bored one day. Kind of cool story about it even though some of it was in jest.

Yeah, I know of some around where I live too. I guess they are now just a scattered bunch of idiots that don't even have a semblence of leadership anymore.

Something I always found funny about the "President" of the Republic of Texas is that one of his big points was that Texas could not be part of the USA, nor could the current Texas government be considered legitimate because it was never voted on by the people of Texas, yet he found it perfectly acceptible to set himself up as "President" even though it was never voted on by the people of Texas.

I hope that didn't make me sound racist, but for the first 18 years of my life, we drove to ND every SUMMER. Never once saw a single black, Indian, or Hispanic. I only saw white people and Native Americans.

ND is awesome, though, on the country tip. I want to go back this summer. My grandpa and my dad's cousin both own approx. 1300 acres A PIECE. We'll take the horses, or 4-wheelers out. It's fun.

Also, (I know NYC will appreciate this), at night it's literally like a planetarium. We'll drive to my grandpa's farm, and turn out all lights. THere is not a SINGLE artificial light in 360 degrees. It's amazing!

Lived there for 12+ years. Yes there are black people in the state, but obviously not many.

2nd best state economy behind Wyoming, lowest unemployment rate of all states, projected to be #2 in oil behind Texas, as of 10 years ago or so we harbored the 5th most nuclear weapons in the nation.

I still consider myself a North Dakotan and we aren't no pushover =)
