We are planning on visiting NYC the middle of December. hope to catch "SantaCon" again this year like we did last. Any of the folks on here from around that area have a feel for recovery by that time? How is Manhattan doing so far? I saw the pics of the escalators in subway stations under water....absolutely stunning and sad.

I think you'll be fine - this city doesn't mess around too much when it comes to getting back up and running.

Plus there's too much money to be made to not have things back in play in Manhattan by then. Parts of Brooklyn and other boroughs, can't say.

I rode from the UWS to Wall Street a few hours ago, sitting in my office now, it seems failry normal from the bicycle point of view...From the Subway, I think all the parts you'd go to in Manhattan are accessible, even if all the lines aren't running.

Don't even hesitate. City will be up and running by then.

Great. We'll be staying at a LaQuinta in downtown Brooklyn and taking the subway into Manhattan. Any great Iphone apps for the subways? I've seen a ton of them mentioned on app sites, but there have to be some better than others. Any favorites?

Unfortunately I can't suggest any of the apps since I am not using any. Let me know if you have any NYC related questions.

Try Hopstop and NYCMate for subway/transit.

And yeah, the city'll be fine by then. You'll enjoy your trip.

I've got a feeling this won't be another mild winter like we had last year though. ;)
