We probably should have kept Swaim on the cheap. It would have been a serious upgrade over Running In Quicksand Witten.

They thought Linehan could scheme players open lol.

The guy had 2 of the goats at high pointing passes with Calvin and Dez and they thought he was going to start scheming guys open all of a sudden.

I liked swaim. But Jarwin and Schultz could be as good or better.

It was clear and obvious to anyone who could look at it objectively that this was going to be the worst receiving corps in the league by a wide margin. There were plenty of defenders of it here, but that group was a bad joke. I'm thrilled with how we've turned it around in one year.

this thread is also great to reflect on exactly what Dak was working with last year. is it any surprise whatsoever that he was struggling big time before Cooper? there was NOTHING to throw to. give almost any QB those weapons and they won't do too well.

Devin Street - out of the league
Gavin Escobar - out of the league
Dez - only offered 1.25 mil halfway through 2018

Having said that, I thought Butler was looking pretty good for us in 2017. Chris Collingsworth had talked him up in 2017 as a guy to watch for breaking out. His concentration holding the ball while going down was good. Always had the size, strength, and speed. He could have helped us in 2018. His problem was not being so bright on the field, mouthing off in public, and getting old. He became that journey veteran insurance that we and other teams pick up in free agency, hoping that their own guys can take the snaps instead of him.

Hurns too, after a very weak start with us, was very productive per target.
Up to game 6 8/21 84
After game 6 12/14 211
He's coming back from a serious injury on a poor team. Hard row to hoe. He's young enough that he can still revive his career.

Look at it this way - the coordinator who had a hand in advocating for the personnel listed above is now gone.

The head coach could find himself in the same position if they don't make a deep playoff run this year (though I do think he will return).
