Now that the comp picks have been announced here are the official draft picks for the Dallas Cowboys:

1-26
2-58
3-90
4-129
5-161
5-169
5-176
6-212
7-244
So is this really a weak draft class as I have heard? If so, the 5 picks rounds 5-7 don’t really do anything for us.

The draft media loves to say "weak draft but strong at X, Y, Z positions".

What they really mean is weak at the top.

This year to me looks weak at the top but better late 1st into the 2nd than some years that are claimed as strong drafts.

Nobody in terms of media/fans really know about strong/weak past the top 100 players. Especially not this early in the draft season.

man this is the year to pull a belicheck and move out of the 1st to the top of the 2nd and get something in the 3rd&4th round. i think there are only 15 i read lock 1st rounders and 5 to 10 1/2 fringe guys.

I don’t think it’s a weak class. It’s actually quite deep, and our first 4 picks could end up being starters.

This is a weak draft class and it’s both weak at the top (only 11 or 12 first round grades) and overall. I think it gets real thin after the early part of the 4th round.

For me, if you know you’re not getting a guy to fall to 26(JSN or one of the top 3 CB) the “sweet spot” is in the 35 to 40 range.

It's more subtle than weak, which has been my word since the off-season.

There are good players.

You just have to find them.

Also should be a nice UDFA class..the goal of this draft should be to get better against the 9ers.and Eagles..stay the course and just make your team better.

The problem is those teams are currently better than the Cowboys and will also be looking to add talent through the draft. The Eagles actually have more draft capital than the Cowboys.

It’s an arrogant notion that the Cowboy will just outdraft the Eagles and 49ers, especially to the level that they make up enough ground on those teams.

That’s why the just build through the draft mentality has always been a misguided strategy.

As far as your take on the UDFA talent of this draft, I agree. The COVID redshirts mean there are more NFL caliber players available. However the issue is 1) they are older prospects and 2) I don’t see much difference in talent level from late 4th round to UDFA this year.

iMO you either trade for next year picks or you trade for veterans that can help your team this year. This is not the year to trade down and gather more picks like this FO did in the very weak 2009 draft and why every team let them.

I disagree and think it's more about where they trade down to and what they want.

JMO, but you make a good point. My point is to stay the course and make your team better, via draft and free agency.

Do the Cowboys use this as a year to get better and compete or will it be sort of a rebuild?

We'll see what they do in free agency. You can't have all pros at every position..imo, it'll come down to team chemistry and how well they draft and develop their players.

This would be a year for the Cowboys to make a splash in free agency...at least get better at RB and receiver, and add depth to your defense.

How far do we think DL Jalen Carter falls due to the incident? Me personally, I don't think he'll fall far, if any at all. But others do. It would sure be nice if he fell to us.
