Samsung makes a nice TV. I've got the 42" plasma. HDTV signal will not interfere with your other TVs.

You'll want an HDMI cable to go from your cable (satellite?) box to your TV for best picture quality. If I recall correctly, there is a PC input on that model that you can use to hook up your computer.

Are you going to hook a game console to it? If so, I would look at 120hz rather than 60hz. Samsung make great TVs so you can't go wrong, even at 60hz. :)

Go bigger for around the same price, and 120Hz.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your budget? I'm big time in tech/electronics and can help you get the best bang for your buck.

On the TV you're looking at, sports will look blurry in HD because it's only 60Hz refresh...like motion blur.

question, sir.

A friend of mine has a Vizio 47" 1080p LCD (120hz refresh). Watching tv or dvd's on his tv, it looks like it was filmed with a home camera. It's really hard to explain... it just looks so different than normal tv/movies. It looks insanely smooth... is this that "dejudder" effect I'm now reading about? What causes his HDTV to look SO MUCH DIFFERENT/better than mine (42" LG 1080p 60hz refresh)... surely it can't just be the refresh rate?

Quality of the TV. Which is why I pretty much only buy Samsung TVs. The combination of price and quality with Samsung is almost unbeatable.

I was told if you go with LCD, get Samsung, if you go with plasma, get Panasonic, and try to avoid Vizio if possible. I bought a 42" Panasonic plasma, and the picture quality is awesome.

I keep seeing this but I don't see why. I know vizio isn't top of the line but its not like they are garbage.

Maybe it's just me but I haven't had any problems with mine.

Same as with everything. Someone has a problem with them so no one should ever buy one. :laugh1:

Buy the cheapest one infact, there is no difference between one costing $7 and one costing over $100, my mom fell for the marketing lies and got the $100 and my friend with the same exact TV with the $7 hdmi wire looks the exact same.

Suit yourself, but it's buyer beware with those things. It's well documented that Vizio is of notoriously poor quality. Yeah...I've only had one experience with a Vizio....a short one. I have, however, taken one apart...and I have seen the crap components they use.

As I've said before, I actually don't think the picture quality is bad on them, just their reliability. If you own one and have had no problems, more power to ya....but consider yourself lucky. It's similar to the xbox "ring of death" in that it's so common, but in this case there are so many other options it doesn't seem logical to buy a Vizio IMO....whereas the xbox really only competes with one or two platforms.

Yes, it is the dejudder, or frame interpolation, which creates the SOE (Soap Opera Effect). I have this option turned off on my set, because I think it looks cheap.

I honestly never had an issue with a 60hz TV. I never had problem with things being blurry.

But now I have a Plasma, so 60, 120, 240 is out of my vocabulary now.

Ca Smith - 60Hz - Ok, 120Hz better

NYC - no game console - a great picture is what I want

Romo2Austin - its going in my basemaent as my main tv - I got 32" digital down there now - I would love to make the whole wal a tv but my budget won't allow that - but am thinking I need to go to the 40 " one

Tomson - Best Buy - NO - HDMI - Mandatory, but don't spend a lot on one the cheapies

I am probably only buying it there live in a a small town - but will check out every place that has a HDTV within 60 miles

This is interesting as my Samsung DLP blew up a few days ago (this time I decided not to fix it)...

I've only had very poor luck with Samsung. In speaking with a salesman at JR, I has asked many questions, Plasma vs LCD, why so many people buy LCD, etc....particularly after everything I've read indicates Plasmas are a superior display (except in bright rooms).

At J&R (massive electronics store here in NYC) he said 9 out of 10 people guy LCDs. But we started shooting it, and came down to the Plasma Viera g25. It was interesting because everytime I kept asking about the twice as much Samsung LED (my friend has the top model but it still looks strange, like everything filmed hand-held) he kept pointing me back to the Panasonic. In fact he even tried to get me to go the cheaper S2 than the g25.

He said Samsungs in his estimation show up the most with issues as far as LCD, he said Sony the least, and the picture quality between the two is similar. But the Panasonics, and according to the high def forums online, these are where its at if you can get over apparently what is just a bad reputation (burn in, too hot). It does use more power for sure. But the picture, particularly for sports is supposedly the best, no motion lag as with LCDs.

Just food for thought. Would be curious to hear CaSmith or anyone else on this subject. I've yet to throw down money on it yet.
