Oklahoma State OC Dana Holgorsen is heading to WVU.

The deal is all but finalized and barring any last minute snags he will be at WVU.

Kind of weird but from what I can gather he will be here this coming season as the OC but will take over as HC the following year.

So Coach Bill Stewart will remain as HC this coming season while Holgorsen is the OC and then Stewart will step down and Holgorsen will take over as HC.

I think the deal will be for 5-6 years.

Interesting. There were Rumors that Dana Holgerson was who Florida wanted.

We need to move on from Bill Stewart. WVU and Bill reminds me of the Cowboys and Wade.

I talked with others early in the season about the similarities between Wade and Bill. Total class act guys that you respect as human beings. However they were just not right for HC jobs and lost games they should have won with teams that had better talent than the record indicates.

I don't know if Florida wanted the guy as ABQ posted, however I do know our main rival, Pittsburgh, wanted him. I think this deal has been in the works for some time now.

However I do feel bad for Bill Stewart as this seems like a move that is being forced on him and IMO they did it to try and force Bill to retire early so they did not have to spend money on a buyout in his contract of some sort.

I can make no other sense of hiring the guy as the OC now with HC in the following year instead of just firing the current HC and Hiring Dana as HC.

So it seems like a power play of sorts and somehow to make Bill retire early to save some money. I think Bill has already been offered a job at WVU in another position concerning sports but not sure what it is or if he will take it now.

We needed a change, Bill was just not the right guy for the job and he really was never considered as a candidate for the HC job (bowden, doc holliday and a couple of others were considered to be in the running) but then WVU went to the bowl game, smacked the sooners by 20 and the reaction of the board was to hire him and the fans went with it at that time.

Now we have a different person in charge of the board at WVU. Oliver Luck (father of Stanford QB Luck). He with some of the other big boosters at WVU is trying to change things around now.

Word is that our Current DC Jeff Casteel will remain in place. He seems to do a good job with the defense. However current OC Jeff Mullen will be moving on.

Interesting to see how this plays out but I have a feeling Stewart will step down before the next season starts. I think if they really asked him to stay for that one year and did so with good reason or intentions, he would do it. He is heck of a guy, very loyal to WVU, but I doubt he will stay.

Looks like you might be able to take Rich Rod back after The Capital One Bowl.

No need to now.

Funny thing is I did hear from some people that they thought he might be in the consideration at one time.

The search for a new coach started back a few months ago.

Another name that seems to have been thrown out there was actually Nick Saban, as he is from West Virginia. The rumors really started to bulk up when it was said that he recently bought a house in WV that was formally Rich Rods. However it was later stated that he bought it for some relatives still in WV.

Different AD now. Also some big time boosters that were kind of upset over the Stewart hire. Some were upset that we did not do more to keep Rich in the first place.

Personally I don't know if I believed the rumors of him being in consideration...but I do know at least one big booster that liked him so who knows.

That would have been quite a backtrack after all the stuff that went on.

I would not have wanted him back, ... for obvious reasons, but also because I'm not convinced that he is that good of a coach.

Without Pat White he is a 7-4, 8-3 coach.

And he was terrible until Robinson came on the scene @ Michigan.

Wanting him back would be like remarrying the ex-wife that cheated on you, ... when she wasn't even a good wife to begin with.

Bill Stewart may be the worst coach to beat OU in the last decade. The only reason he won that game is because OU didn't plan for WVU and they had like 9 players out for the game. They could have had a bean bag coach against OU and won easily.
