Ole Miss senior tailback Brandon Bolden and other SEC players to watch
Ole Miss' ultimate weapon: Brandon Bolden
Maybe it would be different if he'd stayed at home, back in Baton Rouge, and run behind the LSU offensive line. Or headed farther east, and teamed with Trent Richardson to become part of a devastating 1-2 punch at Alabama. No doubt, he'd be a bigger star. Instead, Brandon Bolden took his talents and powerhouse running style to Ole Miss, where he's been an underrated but dangerous weapon. With a season to go, he's on target to set the school record for career rushing touchdowns. Other running backs get more attention in the SEC. But after a preseason of playing quarterback roulette with three candidates, the Rebels know Bolden is a weapon they can count on. For Ole Miss to bounce back from the doldrums of 2010, Bolden will have to lead the way.

Mississippi State's ultimate leader: Chris Relf

Other quarterbacks have better pedigrees and more acclaim. Heck, Chris Relf was a mere two-star prospect coming out of Montgomery's Carver High School when he signed a letter of intent. And when Dan Mullen arrived in Starkville, after turning Tim Tebow into Superman at Florida, Relf didn't look to be around for long. Tyler Russell was more highly rated. Dylan Favre had Hall of Fame genes. And what did Relf do? Well, as Mullen found out, he delivered, week after week. He's always been a runner -- netting more than 1,200 yards the past two seasons. But as a junior, Relf proved to be a precise passer who avoided mistakes. He's now the guy younger players look up to, teammates rally around and coaches depend on. He's the guy Mississippi State puts up front and center at SEC Media Days. He'll always be the underdog. But as Mullen found out, he's the Top 'Dog at MSU.
