Unable to copy/paste the information but this new article states that in any tie between the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Dallas Cowboys, the Bucs would win the tiebreaker based on common opponents.

That being true, we only have 2 scenarios that could award us a playoff spot and excludes the "rare possiblity" that AdamJT13 spoke of.

1. Carolina loss and Cowboys win
or
2. Washington loss and Cowboys win

It would've taken an extraordinary chain of unlikely events to keep us from getting a playoff spot if that had happened, but you're right, I was assuming that wouldn't happen.

All we would've needed was for Chicago not to blow a two-game lead with two games to play and let the Vikings win the North. Barring that all-time miracle, we would've gotten in with a win.

Well, my problem was concentrating on what had to happen for us to get in, not what had to happen to eliminate us.

If the Bucs had lost, we could have been out at 10-6 if the Bears had lost two straight and the Vikes won the North, the Bears took the first wild card and the Commanders took the second. Or if the Skins won the East, and the Vikings and Giants both finished 10-6 and the Bucs and Falcons finished 9-7. Then the Vikings would get the first wild card and the Giants the second.
