He knows that Dak and the offense are front runners to the highest order. Therefore, he wants to score first.

If we go down 7 right off the bat against most teams that basically game over 95% of the time for Dallas.

You always get some chucklehead who sites analytics about it not being much of a difference to accept or defer, but this does not take into account the strengths and weaknesses of a given team.

Not only that, but it is better to defer for no other reason than the two consecutive possessions possibility to end a half and start the next. You get the opportunity to score twice in a row and the other team is prevented from that same deal.

I prefer to defer also but doesn't really make much of a difference because it is not like they will score coming out of halftime anyway.
