Opinion on laptop for my dad

Wow, I would never recommend a Gateway for anything.

For four hundred dollars, you will be getting a POS no matter what you buy. I still wouldn't go Gateway.

I would get a Gateway before a Dell or HP. Then again my laptops are both ASUS, so.

Wow, I was JUST going to post this :p

FYI, Best buy is also having this deal:

Spend $100 get $10 GC
Spend $250 get $25 GC
Spend $500 get $50 GC
Spend $1000 get $100 GC

so get about $25 out of it (or buy something else for $150 to get another $25)

Despite what NYC says Gateways are fine, (edit)Acer bought them 3 years ago.

Not a chance in hell. Then again, you are probably talking about their consumer line. Stick with their business line models. Much better quality.

Oh yeah I meant consumer not business.

I've never owned a Gateway but I've owned Dell (Vostro 1500, a BUSINESS laptop) and an HP Desktop. Both Dell and HP will NEVER get business from me again regarding laptops and desktops. Both were POS.

I own several Thinkpads and they are the best around.

My laptop. Thinkpad. ;)

btw, when I say Dell Business models, I'm talking about the Precision line. Vostros are low end stuff.

I'm thinking about switching to MAC now.

Just got an Ipad and other than my Ipod, it's the first Apple product I bought.

I love it. We are in the market for a new laptop for my wife and I think I am leaning that way.

Dell consumer line or Gateway = a punch to the pills or a kick to the pills

They both suck

Dell business line
Toshiba Business line

I wouldn't purchase anything else, ever.
