Orioles calling Up Top Prospect Machado!

Why are so many of the top prospects in Double-A when they get called up? Same thing with Olt - he was playing in Double A before the Rangers bought his contract. Trout was in Triple-A.
Shouldn't all or most of your guys that are one step from being called up to the Majors be in Triple-A?

AA is where the top, younger prospects tune their game and learn from the coaches. AAA is for those aging vets trying to get one last shot or players coming back from injury in most cases.

Basically, the triple A guys are in limbo and are there to work out the kinks and the coach's responsibility of having them ready to be called up in an emergency due to an injury.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering how players got delegated to which league.
