BREAKING NEWS Cowboys - Osa Odighizuwa agree to terms

In objective fairness to the Joneses, this is better than what they had been doing.

With Diggs, Dak, and Lamb they dragged it out as long as possible only to lose on price as the season was bearing down or even started. They have been rightly hammered for it.

This time they are signing their top FA months before VFA even starts and relative to projections from firms like Spotrac, they have gotten a good price.

They never do anything with their savings other than keep it typically. I think they are going to need to actually be active in the FA and trade market before people even given them a chance.

That has often borne out to be fool's gold when they try. Brandon Carr and Dontari Poe was the last time I can recall them going that route.

Yeah bringing back the anchor of the worst run defense in cowboy history and paying him like he's one of the best DTs in the NFL........ its genius.
He is now the 13th highest paid DT. Probably in the next month he will be the 16th highest paid. We are not paying him top DT money, far from it. He probably would have gotten 23 million a year on the open market. Also who could we have gotten that was his equal and what would they have cost? PS. This was below market price.

So if no one can disprove what you think, you think it makes it valid.

That is some middle ages reasoning.

You made a claim and no one has any reason to take you just on your word. Generally speaking, if you want people to be convinced of what you claim, entitlement is not the answer.
you made claims about Osa and backed up none of them

it is a better deal than I feared
a rotational pieces that will do good work
sad that such costs so much anymore

I like the resigning, 1 of the better pieces we have on the DL
Which is saying nothing. This whole defense needed a reboot. But, I guess we are just going to keep the same failed group of guys together and pay them more money.......b/c that's what the smart teams do.

My Son knows Osa personally and talks about how good of a Dude he is, so I'm happy for him. Glad this got done to free up some spending in FA. Still want 2 DTs drafted.
UCLA kid, He is humble and reliable... All you can ask for in a good piece for the DL rotation.

One thing about OSA in terms of sacks....If we round up half sacks OSA has totals of 3,5,3 and 7 in his career.

Other players rookie contract totals:

Javon Hargrave - 3,3,7,4 (Hit double digits year 6)
Quinnen Williams - 3,8,7,13
Ed Oliver - 6,3,6,5 (Hit double digits year 5)
Jalen Carter - 7,7
Christin Wilkins - 2,2,5,7 (Hit double digits year 5)
Milton Williams - 2,4,2,8
Dexter Lawrence - 3,4,3,9

Obviously we want to find the next Chris Jones or Aaron Donald who come in day 1 and dominate, but most of these guys, even many of the better interior players in the league do not rack up heavy sack number consistently and often find them taking 3-5 years before they see those sacks totals really start to hit. As long as the pressure rates stay up there is a real chance that we see an uptick in his sack totals year 5 as has happened with other guys with similar metrics.

Gauranteed money , which is the only money that matters, puts him 8th. He is not even close to being a top 10 or top 20 DT.

This is a good deal.
Osa is only 26 so this deal is pretty much perfect.
You get him through his prime years at a fair rate.

Would have been significantly worse to pay 25M and franchise him this year.

So who did you want them to sign?
I want them to do what Philly did. Just draft a bunch of DL. This is a very deep draft particularly at DT and we should be taking advantage of it. Paying Osi all this money doesn't improve the team in the short or long term. It's a tread milling move that takes cap resources from other areas the team needs to be addressing with veteran upgrades. We have holes all over this defense.

PFF rated Osa the 11th best interior pass rush grade.
PFF can be flawed but it is vastly superior to using sacks alone as a measure.

Osa's produiction, age and what Dallas had behind him make this a very smart deal.

They might just be doing that, especially if you been looking at the prospects and interviews that have been going on.... as of right now its a wait and see approach for all of us right now... Lets just be happy it wasn't a record breaking deal for DT's.
