BREAKING NEWS Cowboys - Osa Odighizuwa agree to terms

I want them to do what Philly did. Just draft a bunch of DL. This is a very deep draft particularly at DT and we should be taking advantage of it. Paying Osi all this money doesn't improve the team in the short or long term. It's a tread milling move that takes cap resources from other areas the team needs to be addressing with veteran upgrades. We have holes all over this defense.
Yes! I’d think it would be smart to use a 1st and 2nd on DT in a DT rich draft

Yeah bringing back the anchor of the worst run defense in cowboy history and paying him like he's one of the best DTs in the NFL........ its genius.
You are totally wrong. They locked up a good healthy player in his prime to a fair deal and they have money to spend.

They might just be doing that, especially if you been looking at the prospects and interviews that have been going on.... as of right now its a wait and see approach for all of us right now... Lets just be happy it wasn't a record breaking deal for DT's.
The Eagles used two top 15 picks at DE within 2 drafts.
Dallas cannot do that because they don't have the assets.
They haven't drafted twice in a row in the top 15 since 2002 and 2003.

Which is saying nothing. This whole defense needed a reboot. But, I guess we are just going to keep the same failed group of guys together and pay them more money.......b/c that's what the smart teams do.
They obviously will be adding new players to the defense.

you cant have serious football debates with people who are here for schtick.
anyone arguing a 3T is the anchor versus the run is lost in the sauce.

dallas was going to tag this kid. so this signing is all good news all the time compared to that mess.

With Washington taking half your DL last year(then making the playoffs) you really had little choice here.
You cannot rebuild a Dl through a draft in any one season and you can't fully count on the guys you drafted there recently. -injury/performance

PFF had Osa ranked the 15th best player to hit free agency and the top DT available if not signed/tagged.

This is a 3-year 58M deal. That is good business.

I was waiting for this oneLOL.

This will not get the attention it deserves: he took a pretty big home town discount.

The franchise tag this year was 25m$. Dallas made it a priority to bring back Osa, yet they didn’t tag him first, despite not using the tag on anyone else. Why risk that?

1. If you tag him, he’ll then need a contract that size. Why take 20m$ a year when a contract for 25m$ full guaranteed is on the table?

2. But if you don’t tag him and If you don’t come to terms before the 10th, you’re now bidding with other teams. That may be even worse than tagging him.

Dallas put their foot in the ground and said they’d love him back but wouldn’t pay franchise tag AAV, even if it meant losing him… and Osa complied. This says staying in Dallas was priority 1.

Watch what Milton Williams gets on the open market

Last season Osa participated in 78% of all defensive plays and 19% of all ST plays, a career high in both categories. His participation on defense led all D-linemen.

Last season Osa tied Micah Parsons for most QB hits, something you would not expect from a DT. His sacks and combined tackles last season are a career high.

He is, most likely, the most underrated defender on the team and his signing brings stability to the D-line.

Now, instead of simply filling a dire need, the Cowboys can actually improve the talent level, competition and depth to the DT position through the draft. I am still in favor of going high in he draft to add talent to this position.

The Cowboys Front Office is abject trash, but this was the rare excellent deal.
Osa is 26 and already steady. He plays banged up and he can bring pressure inside the tackle box.

Dallas is going to be charged less than 1/3 of the 25M tag this year on the salary cap.
They did this deal a week before free agency so actually has some chances to go shop with real cash in free agency.
Almost unheard of in Dallas.

This is about 85% of Osa's contract on a free market IMHO.

So draft 2 DTs and ignore other positions of need? If he wasn't signed you are playing an underachieving DT that no one likes and a couple rookies. He was a must signing and the price was fair.
