Oswalt would prefer to pitch for either the Rangers or Cardinals?

If he didn't cost too much and didn't demand being a starter, I would sign him. I would sign him with a chance to earn a starting job in spring training. If not, he would be a bullpen guy.

With Feldman (lefty), Lowe (lefty), and possibly Kirkman (lefty) in the pen, the Rangers could use another right hander to go with Tateyama and Ogando. (if Ogando does actually go back to the pen)

BOSTON -- The calendar, with spring training less than a month away, gives you every reason to believe the Red Sox will soon be adding another starting pitcher.

If they do not succeed in signing Roy Oswalt, to whom they have made an offer, a team source said Wednesday night, they most likely will shift their focus to trying to swing a deal with the Chicago White Sox for right-hander Gavin Floyd, with free agent pitcher Edwin Jackson a long-shot option at this stage.

Oswalt remains their No. 1 target, though a team source acknowledged fears that Oswalt would prefer to pitch for either the Rangers or Cardinals.

Feldman and Lowe are actually righties. Also have O'Day, Uehara, Tateyama, Nathan and probably Ogando as righties in the pen. I say that - not sure of O'Day's status. He may be gone.

Lefties are what we are a little short on in the pen.

Still, Oswalt has some appeal. He's certainly past his prime, but he could still be a very good long reliever and step into the rotation if needed.

I heard we could also be looking to trade Uehara.

But if we could Oswalt cheap I see nothing at all wrong with that move. See what he had in spring training and go from there. Too many arms is never a bad thing.
