Offensive lineman Korren Kirven, an undrafted free agent out of Alabama last offseason, has signed a contract with the Panthers, the organization announced on Tuesday. The Panthers waived tight end Kent Taylor in a corresponding move, clearing space on the 90-man roster. Taylor, a former undrafted free agent out of UTEP, was suspended four games for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy last week.

Kirven, a 6-foot-5, 315-pounder from Lynchburg, Va., was initially signed by the Buccaneers on May 1 last year. He spent the entire offseason with Tampa Bay until final cuts on Sept. 2, just before the start of the season. He then latched on to the Browns practice squad in early November, but was terminated a little over a month later. Three days later, Kirven signed with the Jets' practice squad and inked a futures contract with the organization in January. Kirven was waived by the Jets during the draft on April 27 before he was signed by the Panthers earlier this week.

I hear out third-string linemen are getting demolished so maybe this is a move to try to fix that for the preseason.
