1) Anyone notice that we blitz'ed way too much?
I think it would be better to fake some blitz packages and drop back into coverage.

2) Our blitzing looked very uncoordinated.
Our players kept running into each other and blocking each other. We made it very apparent that we were blitzing.

3) They knew we were gonna be blitz heavy.
They started throwing quick outs-- Got rid of the ball very quickly. I think our CBs should have done a better job of jamming or something.

3.) this was frustrating... we needed to press and be physical with Plax if for nothing else throw off his timing(and we can get in his head, done it before) he needed to jammed and roughed up and we never did it..

Well what is really frustrating is that we complained about this about Zimmer's "D" and philosophy. For the last 4-5 years or more this team has been terrible at blitzing. Can't find the lanes, run into each other. Don't time them well. Are predictable etc.

Phillips is supposed to fix that. Looked fairly similar. I do see a bit of an improvement, but I'm starting to wonder if it's the talent of the players. At some point we gotta stop blaming the coaching. Lots of early draft picks on D, and guys that at practice are described as massively talented and ready for breakout (Canty is an example).

I'm happy we have 2 1st rounders next year. I don't like the idea of packaging them unless some of our past defensive high round picks prove they can play, otherwise we still have lots of holes to fill!

Reeves would have lost jamming Plax

Exactly. He had to play off Plaxico. He actually did make some plays tonight. Most doomsday prophets here probably didn't notice that though. I'm not saying Reeves is the answer to our problems, but we all knew that there would be a drop-off in level of play without Newman. It's not the end of the world. We'll be fine.

Yeah... I hear ya....

We had to hit him atleast once... drop a safety to back him up... something... he ran around too freely and uncontested...

His taking a bow was getting annoying

Did you see how many times roy got beat when he was supposed to be backing up reeves?

Did you hear the quote on the sidelines "if they keep putting 31 and 35 on me, i'll keep scoring all day."

the giants and Commanders know that roy can't cover consistently and will keep throwing at him until he is removed.

I seen the worst looking stunt ever late in the game. I think 3 of our guys ran into each other. It looked pathetic.

I thought having wade here instead of parcells/zimmer would fix all the confusion when blitzing plus play more mind games with the opposing team.... tonight looked like the same old crap.. maybe it's the players or something.... really sad.

The Giants are very good at pass protecting. Last year they were 5th in the league for fewest sacks given up. We did get pressure at times it just wasnt consistent.

Mckenzie is a very good tackle and there interior line is very good as well. If you review the tape youll see them rolling backs to help out the the LT in pass protection a ton.

Im not pleased with the pressure but it could have been worse and i feel that with Newman in there and Spencer continuing to improve well be fine.

It's funny you say that because Parcells liked drafting huge slow line backers and huge slow linemen -

But I do agree that we need to start disrupting the receivers some and not just let them have free reign in the secondary - But we can forget about Wade not blitzing, cause this is what he does no matter what.

Good Points...

Im convinced that we have some of the dumbest blitzers of all time....

The object is to blitz in the open hole.....yet how many times did we see our players run up the back of our DL or run straight for a Giants lineman and do the 2 step shuffle?

reeves is terrible and i've had it with fataazz roy. get somebody who can cover, that was pathetic.

The blitzing looked exactly like last year.

There was some pre-snap movement...that was different.

But for the most part, guys simply ran directly into the offensive line..clogged lanes...timed things poorly.

Some work needs to be done.

amen to that Juke

when Nate Jones is your best blitzer, there are problems

as I said after the game last night, this is about our guys just not making plays. None of them are living up to expectations. Oops, there is one: TNew of course.

I think a lot of it starts with the defensive line not following the plan because you'll see them drift into lanes and clog things up.

Also, Mr Spears didn't do a whole lot last night to change my mind about him.

Yes, blitzing is a good thing BUT ya still gotta get a "natural" rush out of some of the guys on the D Line...and it's not happening.
