Just saw that OTC has 2 new features within "Dead Money and Cap Savings" that projects cap savings if a contract restructure and a contract extension would take place.

According to OTC, Dallas could save/create $22 million in cap space if a restructure of Dak's current deal is done or $23 million on an extension.

Zack Martin seems like a good candidate for either a restructure or extension. Dallas won't let him leave unless he retires.

Pretty neat and just wanted to share.

If? That's the way all Cowboy contracts have been written for years.

Restructures and extensions to create salary cap space are the normal now.

Just posted this in the trade Dak thread. Perhaps more pertinent here. We can create all the cap space we need without touching Dak’s contract:

“Jerry will of course do so, but you do not restructure or extend Dak unless you want to guarantee him being here long term. You need to eat away at that cap hit and make a decision in a year or two if he is the long term answer or not. This is not to say he definitely is or isn’t, just that it isn’t 100% clear right now.

First thing is restructure or extend Martin. $12M restructure split over the same 4 years he already has a cap hit in will clear $9M. Then you can designate Zeke a post 6/1 cut. This clears $10.9M. Then you do the same with Tyron if you need the extra cap space. This clears $13.6M. this team can have plenty of cap space to operate even without touching Dak’s contract. There are other contracts that can be looked at also and any new signings will be backloaded (expect Pollard if tagged). Do this and you can operate without much issue next year and if you decide to still keep Dak you still have the ability to sign him but also are in a healthier cap position.”

That's not new.

From the team page select the Calculator view and you get 6 options for each player.

Yep, like always........all this talk about Dak's contract hamstringing the Cowboys is nothing more than troll fodder. They will likely restructure and extend and Dak's contract will be well less than 40 million like its been for the first few years. When Dak's contract will hurt is the year he is no longer here. No different then Romo with the dead money when he left.

Cowboys will have plenty of money to do what they need. They can free up some 23 million just by dumping Zeke and Tyron Smith.

The question is always...............will Jerry do what he needs to do in FA to make a legit run at it.

I'm more interested in that cap figure for trading a certain QB Post June 1st - $18 million dead money and $31 million cap savings. Now what desperate team can we find? :D

Pretty sure the feature has always been there, but it was nested under their "Calculator" section and you had to manually make selections for what you wanted to do with a contract.

Still cool to see it presented alongside the other info for the current year.

you dont have to calculate it now, it is on the main tab as easy drop down option for each player.
prolly enough to break tie with spotrac for me.

If Prescott was traded after 1st June, other than the $18 million cap hit for this season would there be any further hits for future seasons or just this one?

I have found OTC to be a little more useful if you know what you are looking at, but Spotrac has a much cleaner presentation. All about what you want I guess.
