Alistair Overeem (36-11 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is unlikely to fight champion Junior Dos Santos (14-1 MMA, 8-0 UFC) for the UFC heavyweight title this summer at UFC 146.

Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the No. 1 heavyweight contender failed a pre-fight drug test conducted this past Tuesday following a press conference for UFC 146.

Overeem's "A" sample was flagged for an elevated T/E ratio that exeeded 10-to-1, well over the 6-to-1 limit. Kizer said the heavyweight has the right to request the test's "B" sample, which, if negative, would make him eligible to receive a fight license.

...

Overeem failed a drug test? I'm stunned by this news. Absolutely stunned.

Let Dos Santos fight whoever is #3 for the title.

Seem like a simple fix to me.

With the UFC's unknown ranking system, who in the world knows who they see as the #3 fighter in the HW division?

But with UFC 146 being an entire main card of HW fighters, finding another fighter will be easier than it otherwise would be. Although Cain doesn't deserve a rematch yet, it may mean that Mir may get the shot. Werdum could be someone else to watch out for as well.

The BEST thing to do would be to scrap the Strikeforce Grand Prix Final. Does anyone even remember that 'tournament' is still going on, anyways? Put Barnett, a dang worthy fighter, in for Overeem. And considering the alternatives, he's the only guy who could give JDS a real fight.

It would also stop killing time for Cormier, who should be in the UFC already as well.

Barnett has failed drug tests twice, his last one single handedly killed off an entire promotion. He deserves to be in the B leagues not a UFC title fight

Past failed drug tests are now the basis on whether someone should be in or out of the UFC? That would be the same as saying Nick Diaz, despite his incredible talent, should be blackballed for drug use.

Even a mid-tier guy like Chris Leben has failed multiple drug tests, and is still employed by the UFC.

Whether you agree with it or not, Barnett will almost assuredly be employed by the UFC by the end of the year. And again, whether you agree with it or not, Barnett is undoubtedly one of the best 5 heavyweight fighters in the world right now.

Barnett has been a top 3 HW for since he won his first UFC title thing is he keeps failing drug tests, mess up once then you should be able to come back after a suspension, but twice?

Starting to see a pattern with him

Barnett has a good shot at beating JDR, he's like a Couture on steroids, literally. I can just see it now Barnett wins then he probably fails another test and has to vacate the title,.. again

Barnett has been in the sport 15 years. Twice (2) he has failed a drug test in 15 years. That = pattern? #cmonnow

Barnett and Couture are not that similar, but that's just me nitpicking. Couture made a living wearing fighters out in the clinch, and his inside the guard work. Barnett is a catch wrestler that has made a living getting fights to the ground, and using his top game alongside his BJJ and catch-wrestling to submit folks on the regular.

With that said, Couture did learn his catch wrestling later in career, but he's just never incorporated it that much into his fights. Barnett, OTOH, has used it as his base his entire career.

But all this is off-topic, so I'm done now. :)

The majority of that time was spent in Japan, which lets face it is not exactly a convincing argument for him being clean. There's a reasons why people like him and Overeem loved it there

Not surprised in the least, but disappointed as I was looking forward to that clash of the titans.

Wonder what they will do with Cain. They'd better keep him on the card (I'm sure they will). I'm hoping either Antonio Silva or Mark Hunt fills Mir's spot.
