For the life of me, I just don't understand why companies hire overweight security personnel.

I just got back from Kohl's. While putting my cart up near the front doors, I see an overweight guy, who was most likely internal security for Kohl's walk a young man into the store who was around 15-16 years old for stealing of merchandise. As soon as both of them stepped into the store, the young man ran right around the security guard and took off down the street. The security guard tried to pursue him but didn't have a chance because he was totally out of shape :laugh2: .

Last I saw, the Security Guard seemed to be out of breath and was talking to somebody on a small walkie talkie.

I just think you should be in fairly decent shape to have a job like that.

The ones who are in shape are real cops.

Shouldn't matter too much, I'm sure the kid is on camera.

I've never seen a security guard at a mall or anywhere that could actually catch me if I ran. I don't really get their purpose to be honest. I think if any actual trouble started it would be regular customers who would step in and solve it.

If I were a mall security guard I would hate myself.

Because the Jobs pay like 10-15 dollars an hour and most have no benefits. Why do they hire women is the next question no offense but most can not handle the situation due to lack of strength.

It's like asking, "why there are fat cops?". It just is.

Cops have guns. I'm not exactly sure how far they can take the "freeze, don't move" line but I would hate to find out.

I'll tell you the purpose, atleast in my own situation, is a deterrent. My girlfriend had been robbed half a dozen times at her job until they hired a security guard to come in randomly throughout the week to work. How many times did they get robbed during that period? Zero.

The fat ones are the only ones who passed the background checks that applied for that particular job, is another reason.

That guy was going against Kohls company policy.

Kohls security and associates aren't supposed to stop you from walking out the door. Associates aren't supposed to even approach you. They usually have one security manager who works there, and none of the associates know his schedule. But if they see someone shoplifting, they are supposed to page the security guy (hoping he's at work). If not, the perp is basically free to walk right out of the store.

I was playing cards and one of the guys there was the security guy at the Virginia Beach Kohls. I thought he was full of crap, but he swore up and down that was there policy.

I would think even a really fat security guard would be able run down your average midget, just based on length-of-stride ratio.

Plus, it probably takes a long time to get those little cars up to any real speed with all the other clowns crammed in there.

Most mall security types I see nowadays ride those silly Segways. Special Segways I should say because they have a third wheel. I thought those things were supposed to not fall over with just their two wheels, but security guys need that extra wheel for balance.

Who needs to run? They can just place one at each exit and roll em in your path to block it.
