Painting brick

Have you thought about tile instead of painting it? You can be very creative, making the fire place the center piece of your room. As it should be.

I was going to mention tile.

Wouldn't be too hard to slap up some backerboard on that and just tile over it. It would take a bit more work depending on how creative you got but you could probably get a really nice looking finish at a decent price.

Thats not such a big section so you could probably find some closeout materials to work with and get them at a helluva price.

White paint... the only acceptable color... ;)

Or fire engine red. Personally I like bricks that are already colored and varied for exterior but the subject matter was for an indoor fireplace. Tough choice, wife says red to make it stand out more.

Ugh, I wouldnt paint a fireplace. Painted brick looks nasty as hell. I second the tile idea.

Hmmm... that's not a bad idea, Hos. I really like it. Definitely something to think about. I'm planning to purchase a black hearth, but it may turn out to be that nickel and black look, as well. Either way, I like that idea.

Those beams used to be this really ugly dark brown. I've had the house painted before and I had the beams painted to match the walls to open it up. I don't want to paint those.
Have you ever considered stripping them and staining a light stain? That is a lot of work though. I won't deny that.
