Last night the speed of the Cowboys was evident in all things the defense did. Jimmy Johnson drafted for speed. The one aspect you cannot coach. You see Parsons break away early and get on Jones in four steps for a sack. He muscled people out of the way. Even double teams with his power. But that combination is what makes him such a unique player, and how his skill set disrupts in such a way that others on the defensive front begin to feed. I'm not taking away from the other defenders, but like Lawrence Taylor, Parsons' requires so much attention it creates one on one match-ups that favor Dallas.
This is not just from last night, although that game was a prime example of what this team can be going forward.
But the other aspect to this defense is Gilmore. The pick he made, keeping the ball off the turf was outstanding. But his play throughout the game brought an element to this team they did not have last year. His skill set allows Quinn to gamble more. Think back on the corner across from Diggs, especially after the injury of the starter. That corner was the target for the other team's offense. If what we saw last night is an indicator, that has changed in a big way.
I listened to Rex Ryan on Get Up, and he stated something worth noting. Last year Dallas was not a complete team on defense. They lacked a player across from Diggs.
Well, Gilmore offers something similar to the defense that Micah does in that other players are freed up and play with less pressure because the defense as a whole is solid from player one to player eleven.
If this is truly the case, and health stays with this team, DOOMSDAY could officially be back in Dallas.
