Parsons on Barr's Role: 'We Might Switch Up'
Aug 09, 2022 at 08:30 PM

OXNARD, Calif. - The addition of Anthony Barr to the linebacker unit instantly creates a tandem with Micah Parsons that's reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel, in that the Dallas Cowboys are hoping the two can make beautiful defensive music together that ultimately becomes a bridge over troubled water, i.e., their longstanding Super Bowl drought.

The dynamic between the two is already off to a hot start, and that's with the latter having yet to touch the practice field for the Cowboys.

Barr remains on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list as he becomes acclimated to the system, but when asked if adding Barr to the rotation will free last year's first-round pick to go after the opposing QB more often, Parsons answer was an intriguing one.

"There's a possibility," said Parsons, before dropping a bit of a preview into what their music might sound like. "But don't forget, Barr told me he likes to rush too, so to have that switch-up - it'll be nice."

The only issue with Anthony Barr are his knees.

He's been in the NFL for 9 years and has lots of wear and tear on his body. The Vikings wore him down. His knees are what keep giving him major problems lately, thus why nobody else signed him, so he came to the Cowboys on a dirt cheap 1 year/$2 million contract with the potential to make it $3 million. This means he will play limitedly. Let's hope his knees hold up.

You can't have too many playmakers, looking forward to seeing them on the field together.

Health issues, I wondered what took him so long to sign somewhere...

The coaches must, and have to see what we all see. Rushing the passer is the most important job other than throwing the ball and Parsons must do it every clear passing play.
Not really

line Barr and Parson up together in separate gaps and no way you know which is coming , both, or which is going to cut out in coverage and undercut a pass.. Nice to have those options, no way MP needs to be an every down Pass rusher and he even he knows it. let the coaches coach , fans be fans.

I like having somewhat interchangable players, even cox is more of a hybrid can rush, tackle and cover..LVE is our only staring normal old school LB.

I'll give it to Pat on that opening.

The thing is, he will not, and does not need to be an every down LB. So his knees may hold up.
And since they do not have 3 LB's on the field every play.
Parsons, LVE, Cox, Barr and then maybe Gifford and another LB will all be in that rotation. Especially the others when Micah lines up at DE.

There's a reason they signed him let and let him miss most of if not all of the Oxnard work.
But a vet they can use as both inside LB and pass rusher is a nice feather in their cap.
He prolly doesn't play many passing downs early allowing him to test then he may be used more as playoffs arrive.
Jabril Cox is such a good coverage backer he'll get those pass down snaps early.

Yea. I bought into that last year and I don’t anymore. He’s a special special pass rusher and that should be his job on passing downs. Imo.

i think just the fact he will regulate micah's snaps and keep himself and the rest of the lbers fresher going into the post season is a huge plus here.

agree but you also see the pick he made in practise on 1 on 1s and catching tony pollard second level almost going as fast as him... he can be anywhere on the field and make an impact only reason i would not have him lined up on the dline 24/7 we may need games (vikings) where his primary duty is to cover the back

Rushing the passer and getting there is the bigger issue

He will be moved around alot and not a FT pass rusher easier to chip and double..sorry its a fact, you will lose the special component of Parsons by making him a DE..hes LB/OLB/DE hybrid and that how hes special, not DE all game..

its kind of lie Deebo now wanting a huge deal but no longer wants to run, if hes not utilizing that skill that got him paid that makes him special, hes just another good WR Vs an elite tool..

Micah Parsons was built in a secret NFL bio-lab using genetic material from Lawrence Taylor, Deion Sanders, and Deacon Jones. His brain was electromagnetically induced to create a photographic memory while hardwired with the ultimate in natural football instincts.

If Cowboys can add another LB like Roquan Smith, this unit would be unbelievable.

Rumor is that it would only take a 3rd or even 2nd to get him. That's just crazy.
