Big game Saturday night vs the lions as the Cowboys 2023 season winds down to see where they are seeded for the playoffs. Lots to focus, lots on the line in this big game for sure.

But I’m just as focused and genuinely glad to be able to see Jimmy Johnson FINALLY take his rightful place in the Cowboys Ring of Honor. Something that should have happened at least 20 years ago is finally happening. And it’s worth taking a moment to enjoy.

Think about this: The Cowboys first and second HCs in their illustrious history - the great Tom Landry and now the great Jimmy Johnson are both Hall of Famers in Canton and members of the Cowboys Ring of Honor. It would be hard to find any pro sports organizations in history that have had their first two head coaches be all time greats with multiple championships to their name.

Here’s to Jimmy! His place in Cowboys history will finally, officially be cemented in the Ring of Honor.

Right on. Jimmy deserves and it’s long overdue. Great coach who gave us a lot of memories. I agree with your overall sentiment. You said it better than I could have. The game tomorrow night is important for the playoffs but Jimmy going into the ROH is important for history. Saturday is Jimmy’s night and I’m happy I’ll get to watch it.

Thank you Jimmy Johnson for everything.
Good post @Bobhaze

Jimmy lost my respect forever when he orchestrated his departure in 1994. He’ll never get it back. I recognize his talent, but have Zero respect for the man. He betrayed all Cowboys players and fans. I honestly don’t understand why so many revere him.

Another historical factor about Jimmy was his immediate successful transition from a national championship collegiate head coach to a super bowl NFL winning head coach -- a fact that will probably never occur again in NFL history.
In the current super bowl era, other former college head coaches that won super bowls in the NFL -- Bill Walsh, Bill Parcells, Pete Carroll, & Dick Vermeil, for instance-- either worked as assistant coaches in the NFL for a period of time, or in the case of Carroll and Vermeil were former head coaches in the NFL, who later won super bowls with different NFL teams.
John Robinson, and John Mckay were also excellent college head coaches who also had success in the NFL, but never reached the pinnacle that Jimmy obtained (forget Switzer, that was Jimmy's team without question).

Outside of the great Paul Brown and his success at Ohio State University (winning the national championship in 1942) and later winning NFL championships with Cleveland Browns in the 1950's, Jimmy rapid success in the NFL as a head coach/GM was an extremely rare accomplishment.
Just underscores the talent, genius, and brilliance of Jimmy.

We’ll put. Despite how his tenure ended, he is taking a well earned trip to the ring of honor. :starspin:

Best Jimmie Johnson's Dallas Cowboy career memories:

1 Jimmie trademark victory cry " How 'bout dem Cowboys ??!! ... "
2 Jimmie 49ers prediction in bold type headlines - " we will win the ball game "
3 Emmitt and teammates messing up Jimmie's hold spray hair due , post Super bowl celebration
4 Jimmie vs Buddy Ryan .. " oh I tried to tell him something but Buddy ran his fat rear into the locker room "
5 Jimmie to a slacking player- .... " Go over to the other field with that asthma "

Some may forget that Jimmy won his first SB in his 4th season as Cowboys HC after going 8-24 his first two seasons. He completely revamped that roster from a 1-15 disaster in ‘89 to a 13-3 SB champion in ‘92.

Jimmy Johnson deserves to be in the Ring of Honor. He was a great coach but like Parcells he beats to his own drum and leaves to pursue other endeavors when it pleases him. There is nothing wrong with that. After his second stint as head coach and also general manager for the Dolphins Jimmy quit football coaching altogether. I don't care how long it took for him to be placed in the Cowboys Ring of Honor but it's happening now and that is all that matters.

None of us know exactly what happened between Jimmy and Jerry, leading to his departure. We've heard stories, but they are the only ones who know. That you've decided it was all Jimmy isn't based on facts, unless you were one of the attorneys in the room.

Jimmy didn't "betray" anyone, and most certainly not the fans. He didn't owe us anything. What he gave us was a lot of his blood and sweat to rebuild our favorite team and some Super Bowl trophies. I not only respect that, I thank him for it.

Jimmy's players can't wait to be there with him tonight, but 30 years later a fan is still carrying a grudge known only to him. Have fun with that.

A long time coming, but worth the wait.
