Dell latitude d620 running XP. I was running a system tuneup program downloaded from speedtest.net. The program required a reboot to run a disk error check and when it rebooted it forced my external monitor into a permanent sleep mode. Tried restarting in safe mode using F5 and f8... No luck. Anyone have any sugestions? My laptop monitor does not work, i have to run it with an external monitor.

Do you use dual monitors? (both laptop and external)

If so, you just need to re-enable the second monitor in your settings.

Right click the desktop. Click Properties. Click Advanced. Re-enable the external monitor.

That or you can probably use I believe it's the Windows Key + F5? Whichever F# button has the monitor symbol on it. (might be Alt or Ctrl rather than Windows Key also)

EDIT: btw, 99% of tuneup / Fix windows problem apps blow goats and should be avoided.

:laugh2:

The problem solved itself. I got on the phone for 30 mins. sitting here in front of my pc with it running and low and behold is finished whatever it was doing and everything came back on.

This is the second time my pc solved it's own problem just by me waiting.

Thanks for the reply SIA. ;)
