Its already been reported that he doesn't want the Michigan job. It is either the NFL or he stays at Stanford.

I saw that last night. He hasn't been canned yet. I think they are looking at their options before they can him. If they can get a coach they really want, he is a goner. If they can't, they will stick with him one more year and try again next year.

I'm thinking it's about not signing a new coach they aren't completely comfortable with for a multi-year deal and then having to drop him next season for a coach they actually want.

Yeah this is kind of like the Marvin Lewis situation where one minute he is gone then he is staying.

Maybe ESPN should wait a tad before they start throwing out stuff.

However I still think he will be gone.

Rumor I heard was that they told him he needs to get a new DC or he was gone (during the season). Think maybe he tried to get Casteel but don't know that for fact.

I have to wonder if they made one last ditch effort for Harbaugh and he turned them down so they are waiting before finally axing Rich Rod. I also wonder if there is something they are waiting on where they reduce the amount of money they have to pay Rod if they fire him. Say some date that if they fire him after it they save some money.

I just know he owes WVU one last payment on that buyout still so we better get ours.:laugh2:

Yes that seems to be one of the factors that led to getting Dana.

I also heard very recently that there was talk Stewart would not be the HC next season (Dana would be) and that Casteel might leave.

Rumor is (and it coincides with what you mention) it was not just the offense killing Casteel. But Stewart after the Uconn game kind of implying it was the defenses fault in a presser and then trying to push it off as the defenses fault after the recent bowl game loss that sent Casteel over the edge.

But just the last day or so Luck said Stewart would be the coach as planned this one last year.

Word I heard is that they were trying to get the money from boosters and others to pay off Stews contract, fire him or force him to step down and also get the extra money for Dana as his contract is a tad lighter as an OC and kicks up some as a HC and they felt if he was the HC this coming season his contract would have to reflect that bump.

Who knows if any of that is true but it is indeed interesting...at least for us mountaineer fans.

I realize they are trying to be the first with the story and that seems to be a big then for media now...but too many times they jump the gun and you start to question anything they say.

Apparently Harbaugh did turn them down though. Shefter is saying he thinks Harbaugh gets the SF job. Michigan AD says he believes Harbaugh is going to the NFL.
