This definitely fits the mold of Jethro’s comments that there were many Super Bowl winning HC’s he could hire.

And it fits many of his coaching hires this era when the franchise was down and appeared to need a more proven winner than an up and coming sought after prospect.

An old retired or unemployed HC fits perfectly and is a comfortable hire. He’ll get one last shot at coaching and fall in line with the puppetry needed in our dysfunctional situation.

Pete also will likely agree to groom Witten as the future of the Cowboys. My money is on a hire like this.

Yep. Unless Jerry is willing to give up his dream of Witten being the HC, the next hire has to be willing to mentor Witten, So it's gotta be someone like Pete Carrol or Bill Belechek who have no long term aspirations of coaching the cowboys. MM wanted 4- 5 years so we know Jerry wants this to happen in the next 3.

Pete Carroll is a great great football coach.
He’s the perfect stop gap professor.
If that’s what you want.

Posted in the new members area but posting here because I welcome y'all's opinions lol:

Hey y'all! I gotta be upfront with this: I'm not a Cowboys fan. I don't hate them, just indifferent to them. I'm a Panthers fan and UNC football fan. The whole Belichick UNC era is weird for me, too. I'm used to hating him but for the first time in my life feel real hope with the UNC program. He's been there a month and has already helped turn the recruiting game around.

So naturally this Cowboys hiring search has me anxious, even if Mike Lombardi says Belichick is 100 percent committed to UNC. My question to y'all:
Do you guys have a sense of how likely it is that Jerry pays the $10 million buyout and hires Belichick? Also, do you know who the best bet to follow for real info on the coaching hunt and who is or isn't being considered? Ed Werder? God forbid, Skip Bayless???

Nice meeting all of y'all.
Jerry would probably try to wiggle out of paying it if he hired Belichick. I don't know if Bill is at the top of the list, but I do think he'd drop UNC in a minute for the chance at another NFL gig, especially the Cowboys since he has a good relationship with Jones. I think Bill badly wanted to coach this year and wasn't getting any feelers from NFL teams, so he jumped at UNC possibly prematurely.

Who wants a guy ( BB) who walks out on the team that just hired him ? I don’t .

As far as Pete Carroll he’s older than MM and about as far removed from SB success . Strike two.

KM helped pile up some mighty gaudy stats on offense when he was OC . That SF playoff game bothers me when Pollard broke his leg .

Instead of going to Malik Davis to carry the rock in a close 2nd half him and MM turned to Zeke . Zero running game playoff loss goodbye .

Don’t want any of these 3 .

Many are thinking Bill took the job in order to name his son DC and hopefully set him up to be the next HC.

And in the event the NFL team came calling would be interested assuming they’d buy out his contract.

I’m not sure though that a NFL team will be interested.

And for the record I don’t give Pete much chance either unless he fits criteria for bringing on Witten who I think Jethro would love to groom as future.

I dont want either, but if these are the only two choices, yeah, give me the gum chewer all day over Opie.
Looks like Jethro would love to find someone who’d take Witten under his wing grooming him for the future.

And if that is fulfilled would more likely come from an ex SB HC sitting on his couch still wanting one more shot with not much time before riding off into the sunset.

Witten loves coaching,
hes a people person and natural born leader. Unlike KM. If we did hire Witten as HC, as long as he has a great staff around him, I think he may surprise many. I feel he can command a room. I have given this alot of thought and changed my mind since the initial reports. He loves coaching, he really cares about the players and it shines thru when you listen to him speak. We already know he bleeds blue and loves the Cowboys. Would it shock anyone if we hired him as HC and He brings in Sean Lee and LB coach? Sounds crazy but IF the staff hires around them are solid, then we might be on the right track. As much as I love Deion Sanders, he will be great for like 2 years then get bored and leave. He won't stay long. Hès flighty. We need stability from the coaching staff not a flash in the pan. Witten might make more sense than I first thought. KM is cringy...I just don't see him commanding the room or leading men. That matters alot. Witten isnt a x and o guy but he can get an OC for that. I want him overseeing things and setting the tone. MM was feckless. I can see Witten getting nose to nose with a guy or staffer if need be.

btw, I can see Jake Ferguson having a bounce back year if we hire Witten. I think Fergie lost his way, got a big head and didn't focus like he needed.

I think that Pete Carroll would be just as qualified as a HC as anyone else.

What I might question, however, is if he'd be willing to work under this FO.

And how long... problem is, much like Deion ,BB or Gruden, how long before they get tired of JJ or burnt out on the clown show? I feel the over under would be about 2 years , which isn't helpful to the franchise or winning. We need meaningful, lasting changes and none of the above will sustain that. Love Gruden and Carrol but it would be a band aid. Same with Deion. We need to roll the dice and get a guy in here that can lead men, that is young. To grow with the team and cultivate a new culture. Maybe Aaron Glenn or Witten or some combination of the two would work.
