Hard to say, what looks like a tough schedule in July often looks completely different by November.

I guess we are not talking about the same Cowboys offense that goes M.I.A. in the second half against above .500 competition.

True last year looked rough and ended up being like the 2nd or 3rd easiest in the league

I think you have to look at the reason why the Cowboys defense was so bad.

Losing Parsons a week before the start of the regular season after months of contract drama had a lasting negative impact on the team. Not only did they lose their leader, but their new DC had to completely revise his defensive strategy for the entire year.

Then there was the devastating string of injuries to what should have been a strong CB group. They basically lost two All-Pro CBs, by their fifth game they were starting their #6 and #7 CB.

Speaking of the CB position, Diggs was nothing but a distraction. He has been one of the most disappointing players in recent history.

There was also the lack of familiarity with the new defense and with each other. Losing Overshown after game #12 was the final straw.

This does not point to a specific lack of talent but to hopeless circumstances that show no signs of appearing this season.

As long as they can accomplish the following, they could be vastly improved:

1. Top secondary starters must remain relatively healthy.

2. The new veterans still have something left in their tanks.

3. Improvement from their younger players like Blue, Eze, Booker, Fourtnoy, James, Carson, etc.

4. Measurable contributions from a few rookies.

The preseason games may carry more importance this particular season. Our young players must ascend.
