Giants waive Chad Jones
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 29, 2010 10:13 PM ET
A sobering summer for Giants safety Chad Jones took another sad, but probably inevitable turn on Thursday when the Giants waived the third-round pick out of LSU.
Jones recently returned to Lousiana after a month-long hospital stay following a car accident that almost cost him his leg. The transaction was made with the intention of placing Jones on the reserve/non-football injury list once he clears waivers.
The Giants have taken extra care of Jones since his accident, but this is a reminder that the business of football waits for no man. Jones will no longer take up a roster spot, and the team doesn't have to pay his base salary.
Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger reports that, "will probably take care of [Jones] in some form or fashion" even though they are under no obligation to do so. Jones received an $825,000 signing bonus before the accident, which he will fully keep.
Hopefully, the next Chad Jones post we write will be about his recovery, and the excellent progress we hope he makes in the coming weeks.
