The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 31 former players who remain in contention for the seniors category for the Class of 2025.

Members of the Hall of Fame’s seniors blue-ribbon committee pared the list from the 60 names they received after a screening committee cast the initial ballots in the selection process.

Each of the 182 former players nominated for election and screened in the opening round of voting last could have appeared in a professional football game in the 1999 season.

The players — 20 offensive and 11 defensive — who remain in consideration for the Class of 2025 are:

QUARTERBACKS (3): Ken Anderson, Charlie Conerly, Jim Plunkett.
RUNNING BACKS (5): Ottis Anderson, Roger Craig, Chuck Foreman, Cecil Isbell, Paul “Tank” Younger.
WIDE RECEIVERS (5): Billy “White Shoes” Johnson, Stanley Morgan, Art Powell, Sterling Sharpe, Otis Taylor.
OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (7): Ox Emerson, Joe Jacoby, Mike Kenn, Bob Kuechenberg, George Kunz, Jim Tyrer, Al Wistert.
DEFENSIVE LINEMEN (2): Jim Marshall, Harvey Martin.
LINEBACKERS (5): Carl Banks, Maxie Baughan, Larry Grantham, Clay Matthews Jr., Tommy Nobis.
DEFENSIVE BACKS (4): Lester Hayes, Albert Lewis, Eddie Meador, Everson Walls.

In this step of the process, each committee member voted for 25 players. The top 25 and all other candidates who tied for the 25th position advance to the third phase — the cutdown vote to nine semifinalists. Those results will be determined and announced in about three weeks.
Seniors blue-ribbon committee voters will meet in early December to discuss the playing careers of the nine semifinalists. From the nine, three will advance to the full selection committee as finalists for possible election to the Class of 2025.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 will be announced at NFL Honors in New Orleans in February, the class will be enshrined next August in Canton.

Harvey Martin should have been in a looooong time ago. He's a super bowl mvp (co-randy white) and 2nd team all-decade in the 70's. But the media doesn't like the cowboys. It took 70's first team all decade safety Cliff Harris 40 years to get in.......the last one on the defense to make it.

The HOF needs to induct Harvey and LC Greenwood together.

Just posted the same thing, so it can be deleted or merged.

Not expecting anything, but it would be nice if they could right at least one of the two wrongs with them not being in there (especially Martin).

Wow, I did not realize Jim Marshall was not in the HOF already. C'mon, HOF voters, do the right thing and put Martin and Marshall in already.

asmuch as I believe that Martin and Walls should have been inducted long before now, I am resigned to the fact that they will not get the nod this year.

Roger Craig and Ottis Anderson probably deserve to be there too. Surprised the SBs havent lifted Craig but was in an offense ahead of its time and a receiver as much as a RB. Anderson played for the Cards back when teams were garbage dumps for decades at a time. Proved he was always meant to be a star when he joined the Giants and won a Super Bowl. Probably would have had a different career if he had been drafted by a winner in the pre-cap days.

Ken Anderson the most deserving QB
Chuck Foreman at RB
White shoes at WR and he was a GREAT PR and KR- only Gale Sayers was better in the open field
Kuechenberg for OL
Harvey of course DL
Tommy Nobis was a great MLB who unfortunately played at the same time as the other greats
As much as I love Walls Lester Hayes should be in

Likewise, Drew Pearson was the last on offense to make it in to the HoF. It took an entire generation of biased sports writers to retire before either made it in. A clear and obvious anti Cowboys bias.

It’s a travesty thinking about some of the names already listed by you all, but it’s gonna feel much worse when Eli gets in before many of them.

Exactly right. But now the problem is also that the sports writers have recency bias. Most never saw Harvey Martin play. Jerry should be at the forefront of Harveys campaign, but Jerry feels zero allegiance to the franchises players prior to 1989. He doesn't care that guys like Harvey built the foundation of his empire.

Harvey Martin, Everson Walls and Darren Woodson should all be in the hall of fame. Too bad Martin is no longer with us to enjoy it if he gets in.
