With backup quarterback Michael Vick due so much money this year, Eagles starter Kevin Kolb was due a raise. Now he's got one.

The Eagles announced Thursday that Kolb has signed a one-year contract extension through 2011. Scout's Adam Caplan first reported the deal, and says it includes "roughly" $12.26 million guaranteed.

We'll be interested to see how much total money is in the deal. We suspect nearly all of it is guaranteed, because it's hard to imagine Kolb making much more than $6 million per year.

The deal's length is no surprise; Florio predicted a short-term band aid contract last month. The "30 percent" rule made a longer deal difficult, which the Eagles probably don't mind.

Now they get to see if Kolb is really the guy they think he is before forking over huge money.

One year ... not much of a vote of confidence.

I think the lack of a CBA has something to do with it. He is guaranteed 12 million. Personally, I think he will be better than McNabb.

We tore up McNabb and he was able to get away from a lot of sacks. Does Kolb have that same pocket mobility McNabb has?

Dallas only gave Romo a year extension in 2006 a month before naming him starter, they wanted to keep him but needed to see if he was the real deal.

This way if Kolb is the next Romo he's under contract to play more than a year to audition for a big contract.

No, but he probably won't throw every other pass in the dirt 3 feet in front of his receiver either.

Yes i'm going to miss McNabb throwing his patented 'nightcrawler' screen for the Eagles.

However i will get to see him recreate his famous 'gravedigger' out pass for the Commanders.

Love McNabb, God i'm glad hes still in the NFC East.

Kolb has quicker release and makes quicker reads

The lack of CBA makes longer extentions very hard. This is only to tide them over until they can negotiate a longer contract at a later date.

Kolb still has to prove he is a better playmaker than McNabb. Until he does this, then I cannot say he will be "better" than McNabb.

I really doubt that Kolb makes quicker reads than a guy who's played at a very high level for more than a decade.

Kolb will get rid of the ball faster than Mcnabb. Mcnabb takes a long time to drop back from center and get rid of the ball...Kolb is more accurate on short to intermediate stuff and throws a more catchable ball, which is why WR's like DJax probably like him. The question is, will Kolb force INT's and be able to take hits? Can he throw the deep ball?

Kevin Kolb has a career passer rating of 68.9 and has 4 TDs to 7 INTs.

And the Eagles just gave this guy $12 mill guaranteed???

Wow:eek:
