Report: Tim Tebow wants more than Dez Bryant
Posted by Michael David Smith on July 28, 2010 4:23 PM ET
The Dallas Cowboys selected Dez Bryant with the 24th pick in the 2010 NFL draft, and the Denver Broncos selected Tim Tebow 25th. Ordinarily, that would mean Tebow should get paid a little bit less than Bryant.

But Tebow apparently wants more money than Bryant, and that's why he wasn't there when the Broncos' rookies reported to training camp today.

Ed Werder of ESPN reported on NFL Live that the holdup on Tebow's contract is the request from agent Jimmy Sexton that a premium be paid to Tebow because he's a quarterback. Sexton wants Tebow to get a bigger signing bonus, higher base salaries and more money overall than Bryant is getting from the Cowboys.

Werder reported that Tebow and the Broncos are close to getting the deal done, but in the mean time, coach Josh McDaniels has called Tebow and expressed disappointment that Tebow didn't report with the rest of the rookies.

"You're missing time and you can't afford to miss it," McDaniels told Tebow, according to Werder. "You're not going to get these snaps back."

I agree that a QB probably is higher on the pay scale than a WR, but that is not the only consideration. Dez is will be playing and contributing much sooner than Tebow. It may take 2 or 3 years before Tebow is solidly contributing to the Broncos offense, while Dez can be contributing as soon as this year. If not as a WR, Dez will at least be contributing on special teams. To me that offsets any difference in Tebow being a QB.

Whether people like Tebow or not...this is not something new. This has happened in the past where most Agents get a tad more for QBs than other positions.

I think Tebow is going to come out as a fraud at some point. Does he really charge kids $160 for his autograph? Does he have an endorsement deal with Jockey.

Will the pressures and temptations of the NFL life be too much for Tebow almighty? Don't be shocked if it does.

I think this has alot to do with that contract the Patriots gave the 27th pick. Wasn't it like $13.25 million? If they would have done that before Dez signed his deal, Dez might not be at camp right now either. That being said, this should be a much bigger story than padgate. The Golden Child holding out for a few more dollars. Lets see how much play this gets and if 50% of the talking heads bash the chosen one.

Tebow like any player out there is going to listen and do what is agent thinks is in his best interest. If not then why bother hiring an agent? In the end Tebow may not get the contract his agent is trying to get him but it is the job of the agent to negotiate the contract and that is all that is taking place with Tebow and other players who have yet to sign.

I think its ridiculous that so many people seem to hate Tebow because he uses his fame to express his beliefs and help people. The NFL is full of jack*** players with get mine and gang banger attitudes, its great when someone like Tebow comes along and shows some integrity, even if you don't agree with his interpretation of reality.

A lot of people seem to think something "smells funny" about the guy. Really, who cares. If he is privately a greedy guy and a total narcissist it doesn't really matter. Only his actions that effect others do matter and so far he has been a complete class act.

And as far as this story goes, more power to him. He is going to make Denver a lot of money with jersey sales alone (although I admit I don't know how the economics of that work). If you don't use your leverage to make the best of your time in the league you aren't a "good guy", your an idiot. It could all be gone tomorrow.

'Lust' is included with the 'cardinal sins' list. I copied Dante Alighieri's list and used it instead.

The NFL dominates the NBA on so many levels with the exception of a slotted rookie cap depending on draft position. It's no wonder that teams with high picks are handcuffed to paying tons of money and aggrevating every other veteran in the locker room.

Those deadly sins are crap. Discouragement? I discourage my son to take drugs and I commit a deadly sin? Pride? Sorry, but that is essential to becoming an upstanding productive member of society. If you don't have pride in yourself, I would say you are more likley to fall victem to the real deadly sins. Having pride in yourself is one of the best things you can teach your children. Extravagance? Okay thats fine but it's basically the same thing as gluttony.
