NFL defenses are pretty good.

And the running games aren’t what they used to be…which makes it harder to complete passes in the red zone.

I would tend to believe that FG numbers will go down as the season progresses and offenses get up to speed.

Seems like a lot of defenses are playing bend dont break, refuse to give up the big plays and are forcing teams to put together 10+ play drives without a mistake. If the trend continues I would expect a massive advantage to teams who can run the football. Teams without the ability to get chunk yards on the ground are going to be in an uphill fight all year.

Kickers are too good now. Goal posts need to be moved closer together. You are surprised when a kicker doesn't make a 50 yarder.
They don’t need to be moving goal posts closer together. There’s still some accuracy issues, but they all have real strong legs. It’s fun watching place kickers try them from 60+ yards out. We wouldn’t see near as many attempted if they moved the goal posts closer together. Just think about it though, the NFL record is 66 yards which is only 3 yards farther than Tom Dempsey’s record in 1970.

With every tackle of a QB not named Dak a 15-yard penalty and the ability to kick 60-yard field goals like chip shots it's too easy to fix games. Defense has no chance. It is shocking when a team doesn't get the winning field goal.

I think this has more to do with the new kickoff rules putting them at the 30 and kickers being REALLY good now rather than good defensive play.

Exactly, when is the last time you saw a punter try kicking into the “coffin corner?”
You don’t, teams try FG instead inside the 50 yard line. And most kickers are consistent within 50-55 yards. The mental part is the problem.
