Tony Pollard on hip-drop tackle: It would be hard to take it out of the game

Posted by Charean Williams on June 9, 2023, 4:57 PM EDT

In a divisional round playoff game, 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward caught Tony Pollard from behind and grabbed the Cowboys running back around the waist. Ward meant no harm, but the tackle — nicknamed a “hip-drop tackle” — ended with Ward’s body rolling over Pollard’s left leg.

Pollard fractured his fibula and required surgery to repair ligaments in his ankle.

Yeah that tackle could be accidental and yet I have heard some players were trained to tackle that way knowing they could injure someone. I forget which team was accused of it. I want to say giants. I remember something about it after Dez was hurt like that and I want to say it was during giants game.

Hip drop was same kind of tackling that also crippled Dak Prescott .. Mobility and run speed has never been same sense.

Dunno if NFL will ban it same as they did the horse collar tackle. ..
