Football is a game where, if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes. This goes for the Lions, it goes for us in several of our losses (such as the Bills game), and it goes for clock management mistakes around the league. However you want to slice the Lions call, it could've been avoided (not talking about the trip here) by the Lions kicking the XP there or not trying to send multiple olinemen like they did. Especially when eligible olinemen are announced on the PA system anyway. Stupid game by the Lions, and they won a stupid prize by way of losing in the way they did.

Our game against the Bills was another example of it. We committed personal fouls that resulted in touchdowns. If the Cowboys don't do that, then it's a closer game. However, we committed personal fouls there and won a stupid prize.

The clock management issues this season (not just Mike McCarthy) have been insane. And, in many cases, the coaches played a stupid game with the clock, and won a stupid prize.

Not every loss is the result of stupidity. However, a lot of stupid decisions result in losses. You play stupid games in football, you win stupid prizes.

Just how many clock management gaffes has MM had this year. How many have other HC have.

I think many times this is overblown by fans.
Easy from a fans couch, chair, bed, bar stool or how ever one watches it. Easy for them to say and in hindsight most of the time.

Be on the sideline in the heat of the moment with 50 things going on. And you need to decide what is best. Most of the time they get it right.
No one ever says…hey great clock management until they think it is an issue.

Yes there are issues at times, but also play calls at those times are worse.

Name the gaffes with clock management, and did any really cost us any games. Many other factors involved.

Some things are fundamental.

Doesn’t statistics tell Mike sometimes is better to take off 40 seconds or an opponents time out than to take a low percentage shot. to score a quick TD?

If it weren't for Dan Campbell's anger it could have very well cost us the game yesterday.

Troy aikman's actually won three super bowls and I trust his judgment calling it how he saw it from the booth and he couldn't understand McCarthy's time management and why he's throwing the ball and not running the clock out

I agree Rusty it does happen but it seems to be happening to us a little more.
Along with the fact there was supposed to be a dedicated effort to minimizing the penalties between untimely penalties and bad clock management it becomes a mountain that can't be climbed especially in the playoffs where everyone is good and capitalizes on any mistake you make

For the most part big Mike has been very good with the clock this year. But that was mind numbing to watch on Saturday night. It nearly costs us the game. I hope he got his F up of the year out of his system for the playoffs.

My guess is that MM trusts the passing game to move the chains more than he trusts the running game.

They were throwing the ball because it became 1st and 25 on the bogus tripping call. The problem was Dak throwing it away on 2nd down instead of a quick high percentage throw that would keep the clock moving.

I think Dak said that play was on him. Maybe he seen something and changed the play. Not quite I understood it all when asked. But I was not paying 100% attention either.

Agree. I don't know a HC who doesn't get reamed for questionable clock mgmt. They used to say it about Andy Reid all the time. Suddenly, he gets a top 5 QB, and those issues disappear. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. And it was there on the opposite side. Doesn’t mean it would’ve been complete, but it had a better chance than a ball thrown out of bounds. The only good thing you can say about that ball is it had no chance to be intercepted.
