Anyone notice the number changes on the roster at DC.com? It's not that important, but I was bored.

Since Brad Johnson was signed, he took number 14. Miles Austin switched to #80 and Anthony Fasano switched to #88.

Don't know about you but I don't like a TE wearing 88 for us. Just feels wrong.

Brett Pierce was wearing #88 before, and is still listed as 88 under the IR section. I wonder if this means he has been or will be cut?

Really I don't either.

As long as Fasano makes the plays when the ball comes his way I don't care what number he wears.

I wouldn't put too much into right now,,,it also list Davis as #00,,,and Bowen as #74 and they don't ever issue that jersey to anyone.

jackie harris also wore #88

Whenever I see mention of a Cowboys wr/te named Jackie, I think of Jackie Smith and his SB XIII drop. A bad memory, indeed.:

I can't tell you the number of times I have referred to Jackie Harris as Jackie Smith and vice-versa. It drives me crazy :bang2:

wonder how much brad johnson had to pay miles austin for his number back.

Anthony Fasano wore #88 at Notre Dame. I think it is natural for him to want it.

We associate #88 with WRs because of Drew Pearson & Michael Irvin. 4 other WRs have also worn #88.

Antonio Bryant from 2002-2004
Sonny Randle in 1968
Reggie Rucker from 1987-1989
Ron Sellers in 1972

Two TEs besides Fasano have had #88.

Brett Pierce, who also wore #49 for a time, wore it last year.
Jackie Harris from 2000-2001

The original player to wear #88 was not a WR or a TE.

LB, Sonny Davis in 1961.

Interesting that 2 players named Sonny have worn it.

It was also worn by a Kicker/Punter.

Colin Ridgway in 1965.

If he's smart, he'll do like the kicker or punter did in NY. Seemed everytime a new FA arrived, they wanted his number. I think the money he got each time funded the remodeling of his house.

The all time great story about changing numbers was shared on Letterman by John Kruk when he was playing for the Phillies. I will try and do this justice. This is not verbatim, just to give you an idea.

Earlier that week Rickey Henderson had joined the Blue Jays and bought #24 from Devon White for something like $25,000.

Dave: Didn't you change numbers to #7?

Kruk: Yeah, a couple of years ago I used to wear #33, but when we acquired Mitch Williams from the Astros to be our closer and he wanted #33 because his wife had all kinds of gold jewelry with #33 on it.

Dave: What did you get for #33?

Kruk: A case of beer.

Dave: Devon White got $25,000 and you got a case of beer?

Kruk: Yeah and to top it all off, Mitch divorced that gal and wears #99 now, and my beer's all gone. It's a sad story.

I hope somebody goods get #89 so I can dust off my old reversable LeFluer Jersey and pretend it's somebody else.
